I mean, I can currently manage 2 minutes no breath. The average is 30 secs-90 secs. So most SMART people drowning others usually keep them under for at least 4-5 minutes, longer if no thrashing has happened yet.

His friends are most likely other free divers. They practice individually and are safeties for the individual holding their breath. The reason most people can only hold their breath from 8-15 seconds is due to oxygenation and tolerance of the blood and brain. Different pranayama yogic breathing techniques are used and practiced regularly to enlarge the liver, increase tolerance to lack of oxygen and higher carbon dioxide levels and learn to still the mind. There are even higher practices and feats that can be performed. All breathing practices you are ready for can be found in guidance of a teacher. ALWAYS consult a high level practitioner. True yoga is the complete science of the mind, body, soul, earth and space. Lastly... Siddhis, aka powers, are wonderful but not the goal of Yoga, aka Union with God/Atma/Source of all Creation and Consciousness, but merely abilities that transpire on the path or are given by Grace and taken again when no longer needed. Our ultimate goal with Yoga and life is to play our part in the divine play, become Aware of the Self, and focus our minds on gratitude and God. At that point all powers are attained never to be taken but never to be used frivolously.

This is an oxygen aided breath holding record. The last breaths he takes from the tank contains pure oxygen (still so impressive and not making this record less valuable). World record w/o oxygen aid is around 11.5 minutes.
@sumtensor3 жыл бұрын
Breathing pure oxygen sets off a series of runaway chemical reactions. That’s when some of that oxygen turns into its dangerous and unstable cousin called a radical. Oxygen radicals harm the fats, protein and DNA in your body. This damages your eyes and your lungs. So breathing pure oxygen is quite dangerous.
@jorislal3 жыл бұрын
I'd say it's also entirely possible that he pressurizes his lungs to like 2BAR of pressure from the tank as well. There's a freediver that has a technique of doing it without a tank.

When I was a teen, I could hold my breath for five minutes sitting still and I could swim two laps underwater (25 meters each way). One time, after swimming two laps underwater a few times in a row, I decided to go for more. I made it about half way into a third lap, when I came up, took a breath, and immediately passed out. Fortunately my friend pulled me back up and I regained consciousness, having no idea I had passed out. I stopped trying to see how long I could hold my breath after that. There's no reason to push holding your breath under water when you are much safer just holding you breath while laying in bed.

Great record, but it is necessary to consider that he breaths pure oxygen before it. In air there is only 20% of oxygen. He breaths 100% oxygen before starting and this means that he stores in his lungs 5 times the oxygen we can do breathing normal air. So 25 minutes with 100% oxygen is more or less equal to 5 minutes with air in the lungs. Still a great performance, no doubt.
@ReasonMakes2 жыл бұрын
That's not really how it works. Your lungs never hold onto 100% of the oxygen that you breathe in. I don't know exactly how much advantage breathing pure O2 gives here, but I guarantee it's not 5x. 4 minutes is about the average time a normal person can hold their breath for with limited training (lookup Mike Boyd). I guarantee this guy can outperform that.
