Ah, there's the magic of record stores, as witnessed here you see people looking through the bins and there's this man with a guitar speaking and never suspecting they are in the presence of an amazing musician. He's happy, chasing his bliss- but throughout this video, I kept picturing him blazing on his Rickenbacker or Jaguar on the Churches classics, and laughing to myself ( having seen the Church twice ) of what a stunning player he truly is...thanks Marty, peace from Texas.

This is the man that did that phenomenal electric 12-string on Almost With You, one of the greatest "jangly" songs of all time.

I fondly recall Marty telling me "the magic is in the right hand." Ne'er a truer word has been spoken.

Ran into Marty at Criminal Records the day after the Church's Atlanta show in 2011. An incredibly nice guy! Just happened to find a copy of 'Art Attack' on vinyl and had him sign it. I took it to the counter to pay for it and the clerk joked that he'd have to charge extra. "It's worth more now," he said! You never know when you might bump into one of your musical heroes. A very cool memory!

Yes, Rhythm playing is the core skill - Hendrix was a fabulous rhythm player, all the good players feel the rhythm

I had the Good Fortune to meet Marty following a Church concert in Annapolis, MD during one of his last tours with the band. If you ever have seen a Church concert up close, you know how Marty makes eye contact with you, if you are "into" the Music. So afterwards, he came bounding out of the dressing room to meet the people. I happened to be the first person whom he encountered. I was wearing my red "Communist Party" T-Shirt. So i thanked Marty for coming to play for us. He gave a mumbled response of thanks for coming to listen, but instead of making eye contact, he was trying to decipher my shirt. "OK. There's Lenin, Stalin, Fidel Castro, Mao Zedong," but the bearded dude wearing the lampshade on his head escaped him, so i said, "Comrade Karl Marx..." He replied, "Oh! The 'Communist Party!' " like he had just solved the Puzzle and won the Prize. As he signed my copy of "Untitled #23" he said, "You know, i took these pictures..." I replied, "Well, i do read the liner notes, Marty. They're great." I then told the long-bearded Marty that he looked like a general from the American Civil War, and suggested that he Google James Longstreet or A.P. Hill to find his look-alike...We shook hands, i thanked him again, and he was on to the next person. He genuinely wanted to connect with all of the fans who came to see him play, and i found it refreshing that a "Rock Star" would be so unaffected and humble...but that's just Marty...

11:23 This made me think of Steve Howe playing his solo on Awaken, as I'm pretty sure he plays it on a Ricky 12string 330 . It is fucking amazing, but even then i don't think there is much bending going on, just super fast lead guitar playing. there are no rules when it comes to guitar. Love Marty btw
