I have a question, are you playing a double pinch harmonic with the pull off on the G string and on the 3rd fret of the A string, or is it just one pinch harmonic on the 3rd fret..?
@15liters3 ай бұрын
You mean the riff, right? That was the part I had the most trouble with when transcribing. It's been my longtime mystery. I've written it conveniently as X on the TAB I made, but it actually sounds like the 5th fret of the G string is still ringing, or it also sounds like a rest. Maybe it's something else (the pull off to the G open string?). In any case, I didn't play a double pinch harmonic in this video, but one pinch harmonic on the 3rd fret of the A string.

@@15liters Ohh ok, those were the two questions I was exactly wondering, interesting. I've been trying to figure out how Jun plays it as well, from watching live videos. Thank you! I think this live video shows a pretty good close up of what he is playing, but I can't really tell, might have to slow it down to see. kzbin.info/www/bejne/qJa0kIt_ea9pd9U

Gotta commend doing the solo in the one-take shot and putting the extra rhythm in the screen-in-screen take. Very cool

Ive been binging your videos all day. Literally blows my mind how *easy* you make it look. Ive been playing guitar for like 2 years and working on gettin better, my goal was always to be able to play many of the Jun Senoue songs...do you have any tips specifically for practicing/getting better to play the fast bpm, precision heavy songs like this? And out of curiosity how many years have you been playing? Thank you in advance. Amazing job.

Took me a lot longer than two years to learn this song. 😂 Just keep going! In terms of tips, Jun Senoue (and a lot of Japanese guitar-based music composers including the likes of Daisuke Ishiwatari I've found) use little shortcuts to be able to accurately and efficiently slide between power chords. This song has to be played in a certain way - for example, instead of playing a full x5777x major chord, play just the xx777x instead, and barre it with your index. You can slide it around, hammer on, pull off and jump between them with ease. Essential for the verses.

@@Claidheambmor I really appreciate the advice! Im currently working on building technical proficiency on a lot of simpler songs but this is my dream goal haha! I will keep that in mind for the unorthodox ways of doing little power chord changes! So many of these songs are so fast!
@15liters Жыл бұрын
Open Your Heart's riff is complicated with techniques such as palm muting, slides, double bending, pulling-off, pinch harmonics. And it's so fast. The standard way to practice fast phrases is to play at a slow tempo. If you can't do it at 50% BPM, of course you can't do it at 100% BPM. And if you can't do it at 50% BPM, maybe it's due to fingering problems. If it looks like I'm playing easily, it might be because I'm playing with efficient fingerings that require small movements. It's very important to think always about which finger to use to press the fret. I had been playing the guitar for 10 years at the time I took this video.
