Thank you for your video! I got a used Kramer striker that wasn’t giving me any sound from the amp. After watching I checked the wiring, no issues, dusted off the grime that’s built up, and then tightened the nut to the wood more. She sings now!

@Frankyboy24243 жыл бұрын
@@JaDiLoco I just soldered the black wire to the ground/sleeve tip where it was attached to and I was ready to go! You mean both wires snapped off? Then just solder them both. You just need to know which cable goes to the hot and which goes to the ground. But that is easy to find when you Google it up.

the real solution is to use a small drop of glue on the inside and outside nut threads so the nuts do NOT loosen in normal use. And if the threaded barrel the cord plug goes into is sticking out... adjusting the inside and outside nuts to cure that can make the jack go deeper into the cavity of the body and prevent plugging in at all. Be prepared to remove wood on the front side of the jack route in the body to resolve it.

What if your input jack looks fine on the wiring side but doesnt have any signal unless you bend the cable in a certain way? My dean vendetta has been doing this for the last few days and it is so annoying, is there a way to fix that with soldering?
@makingmusicmag4 жыл бұрын
Hi BioLizard, We reached out to Todd Hobin directly and here's what he said: Inside the jack there are prongs. Metal pieces that are made in such a way as to touch up against the side of the plug. In a guitar, there are two prongs. One for the tip of the plug and the other along the shaft or "sleeve." Sometimes, with use, these prongs can bend away from the plug and lose contact. When you bend the wire, you are in effect, moving the plug up against the prong that is misaligned. It is possible that you have an "open" jack assembly inside the guitar. This means you can actually loosen the hex nut on the jack, pull out the wiring and the jack. Bend the prong so it will press up against the shaft of the plug. Then put the whole thing back together. Tricky, but very possible. We would suggest taking the guitar to a qualified guitar tech and have them make the fix. They are going to be the expert and give you the best diagnosis the ensure the right fix for your situation. Hope this helps!
@DaisyHead6664 жыл бұрын
@@makingmusicmag Thanks! And yes i did try that and it seems to work pretty well, sometimes it will cut out but usually i just have to swivel the shaft of the plug in the jack til it works again.

So I uave an ibanez that only has 1 fully insulated wire, and a mess of copper wires wrapped around it. The wires were originally soldered all to the same point (all the unonsulated wires, that is). I tried tinning them all together and soldering the whole group to the point, but that didn't work. I am pretty stuck on this. Plus, I have already stripped the wires down pretty far, so I'd rather not waste a bunch more wire trying to fix this without knowing what I am doing first. Any help would be appreciated.

How could I know where I need to soldier the wires when both are off I don’t want too soldier them incorrectly
@giulioluzzardi7632 Жыл бұрын
The long metal on the socket piece is the "Hot" so follow it down to where it goes into the round part of the socket and you will see a small bit of metal with a hole , solder the white wire there, the other is ground (the shorter piece of metal) and that has a corresponding lug too on the other side of the socket so solder black to that. Clean it as best you can first and try to poke the wire into the lug a bit,use just a dot of solder and be careful not burn yourself with the iron, turn it off as soon as you are done. If it does'nt work try it the other way round. Get a good look at the jack socket and familiarise yourself how the thing is put together(it's simple but small) get magnifying glass to see where the tip and lugs are. Do this when you have time don't rush. Hope this helps if you have'nt fixed it already?

If you’re a Jimi fan then you may have to replace the whole guitar doing it that way. Seriously, the intense heat required to accurately melt the solder is delivered by an electrical soldering iron with a suitably-sized tip. It’s a skill many industries require from skilled technicians so don’t feel that you’re automatically going to ace a delicate repair. The person who first attached it probably has done thousands of them and hence it’s very clean, neat and up to spec’.

@Mudge078 ай бұрын
You may have a single co-axial cable with a central signal wire core and a concentric swore sheath called the ‘screen’; it’s to reduce interference. However, the extremely thin gauge of the co-ax makes it very difficult to handle, strip and separate to make the two solder connections. For example the Squier Strat I’ve have seen with this ‘noisy’ connector had a poor screen soldering which eventually rotated off as the external nut was turned. If you can do the electrical re-solder job yourself without damaging the signal core or shorting it, bravo, otherwise get it to a repairer and apply locking glue to the internal and external nut once they’ve been properly clamped to the chrome, fishplate. There’s insufficient room for a spring washer to maintain mechanical tension on the tightening nuts in this decades-old design.
@DougHinVA4 жыл бұрын
Many Strat copies are NOT Fenders and the jack only fits on the insert housing 1 way.... so the plug can go into the jack port and go all the way. You have to know how to rotate the jack on the plate and then install the plate... But he shows only the Fender way.... typical.
