@Gerald Dixon Cummings It didn't cease to exist, it was just forced to go into a different direction. And the second incarnation put out some great music of their own. But I understand what you are saying. Sure, they could hire another guitar player to play Gary's parts, and there are plenty around who could do it, just like they did with Billy and Leon. But Gary was the sole surviving original member, and THAT nobody can replace.

I got addicted to pain pills after a motorcycle crash where both my legs were snapped in half on the tibia. (shins ) I walked away from it after abt 6 years of it. It was a controlling my life and I don't like anything having a hold on me. I pretty much stayed in bed , watched tv, ate sleeping pills and ibuprofen for about 10 or 12 days and it was over. After 6 or 7 years of that I found it strange that being high seemed the norm and being straight felt like the buzz. There is light at the end of the tunnel if you are addicted. Just reach for it. IU know you can do it!!!

I'm very sorry as a fan to learn of Gary's passing. I was a huge fan of the original lineup and was deeply saddened by the shocking plane crash accident that took the lives of the leader Ronnie Vanzant, Steve Gaines, Cassie Gaines as well as other's. Poor Gary took such a physical pounding with significant internal injuries multiple fractures, it's a thousand wonders he survived the ordeal. Billy Powell, Leon Wilkerson and Allen Collins also suffered serious injuries but thankfully lived not to fail to mention the notable Artimus Pile. Gary was an amazing artist and he lived to help carry on the music of Lynyrd Skynyrd in the most honorable and dignified way. With Gary out of the lineup any additional band performances will definitely fall in the true category of a Tribute Band. RIP Gary.

Absolutely tragic, another Hero fallen by the wayside, but here's a Fun Fact everyone seems to be overlooking: Rick Medlocke was in the original Band in 1971-1972 and recorded material not released until "Skynyrd's First And Last" shortly after the Crash. So that would mean MEDLOCKE is the LAST surviving member of the Band preceding Ed King...

I’m assuming heart-related according to everything I’ve researched. That said, he lived to be 71 and was involved in a car wreck, plane crash, long hours on the road, partying, drugs, etc., that lifestyle has got to be hard on the ticker and I know many who did less than GR and had their lives snuffed out much earlier.

Saw the original lineup in 77 at soldier Field Chicago in Super Bowl of rock lll the concert was known as the milk jug concert because you were able to bring in two milk jugs with your favorite beverage and when Ted Nugent got on stage who Lynyrd Skynyrd backed up. Everybody hurled their empty milk jugs on the stage. Ronnie had a busted ankle and had a cast on, and he still rocked the hell out of the place. It is my very strong belief that there is never going to be another Lynyrd Skynyrd band without Ronnie. They can call themselves a tribute band, but it’s just not the same without the legend. If you read Rolling Stones, top 100 bands of all time, Skynyrd came in at 95 and their exact words were Ronnie Van Zandt was Lynyrd Skynyrd end of story
@peterbilt-bo1vy
@peterbilt-bo1vy Жыл бұрын
Rolling Stone can say whatever they want but that doesn't mean it's correct, they are not the be all and end all of music. Real people know what's the best when they hear it. Gary Rossington was a founding member of Lynyrd Skynyrd and he kept it going as well as a human being could and that mattered a lot. Gary was there keeping the spirit of Skynyrd alive. If the musicians who are left in the Skynyrd band want to continue playing their music why shouldn't they do so? This has been their life for years, they are musicians and playing music is what they have spent their lives doing and it isn't like they haven't been Lynyrd Skynyrd for years already. And, Medlocke was a member of the band in the early 70's and Ronnie's brother has been in the band for a very long time. Leave them alone and let them do what they want to do.
@Woodstockneverhappened

@@peterbilt-bo1vy Well, you’re entitled to your opinion, but it don’t mean nothing to me. I followed them since 72. They’ll never be another Ronnie and they’ll never be another Lynyrd Skynyrd. And in case you don’t know it, they used Gary as a cash cow anytime he had heart trouble they’d be boasting that he’ll be back in a couple weeks when in fact, his doctor told him to take six months off, but he wouldn’t do it. He was 71 dude that’s not very old they rode him to death. And quit trying to tell me the history of Skynyrd. I’ve been there since the beginning.

God speed: Mr. Gary Rossington. R.I.P.! This man was one of the true inventors of southern rock music! My very first concert was 1981 Henry Paul band- Rossington Collins band and headlining was zz-top! In St Paul. Minn. I'd seen skynyd at least 3 more times after that! All amazing shows! Gary was always the cornerstone of that band, and the other members were also amazing, and blended so superbly! Triple guitar leads and melodies! Gary right in the middle of the mix, holding it all together! First record I had was second helping. Got em all after that, and learned to play guitar to that. Thank you for the inspiration, and such kick ass honky tonk Rock! There's only one! SKYNYRD! AND GARY (YOU ARE THE MAN)! Won't ya fly i-i-i-i free bird ya!

Skynryd gave us such great memories in the '70s. The cover band thereafter including Rossington caved in through the years. They eventually replaced our Rebel flag w/the yankee rag; I stopped supoorting them as they became turncoats. This would have never happened had Ronnie survived.

All my rock and roll heroes are dying. It is so sad as it reminds me of my own mortality. The sad thing is that rock and roll is not what it used to be like in the 70s. All that comes out now is cookie-cutter trash or rap crap. The dumbing down of America's youth. As far as Gary Rossington is concerned he had a heavy weight to carry after the plane crash. Thank God for his tenacity. I only hope that you need Jesus before he left this Earth. Gary Rossington is in eternity now. There is no coming back unless you know Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior.
