Thank you for mentioning jazz chords. I hate those f'n things. But it also points out the fact that STP was not just another grunge band. They had undertones of jazz and glam, and they increasingly moved in that direction.

Thanks for the lesson it was super helpful! One thing I found when playing along to the original video is that the tuning was about a quarter step up from D standard so I just tuned each string about an extra 20hz or so above perfectly in tune and it sounded identical to the recording!

I saw the P-note joke coming from a mile away and it still got me. Never gets old :) I, too, have a liking for chromatic walks. This song is neat, even if I was taught right from the beginning to not like Stone Temple Pilots (for no particular reason) :)

You can play it in standard tuning if you want. It's in standard tuning on the album, I think the MTV unplugged show, and in the electric guitar tutorial for this song on this same channel. Most people who reference the 'acoustic version' are referring to a performance with just DeLeo and his acoustic accompanying Weiland. It's in that video that DeLeo is downtuned. It sounds pretty good in standard tuning too, it's just brighter. Tuned down gives it a darker feel ('grunge tuning').

I love all the chromatic walks in this song. I could never remember the E flat maj 7, but I wasn't thinking about it continuing the chromatic run, but a higher octave. Now I just need to work on the finger gymnastics of getting to it from a C and then getting back to the F.

Why do you think they tuned the acoustic down when the original track is in standard pitch? Also, in the original track during the bridge (?) there’s a second guitar playing a very cool riff that’s hard to clearly make out. It’s during the G-F-C-D#-D part. I’ve yet to find a video of someone showing how to play that part. Can you do a short video on this?
