I had a ‘59 Tele in the mid-to-late ‘70s. Same color as the one in the video, but mine had a maple neck (worn out!) and a black pickguard. I had to replace the threaded-steel bridge saddles as they were totally rusted-I put brass ones on and that improved the tone a lot! Replaced the tuners too as they were rusted too, and at that time (1974) there weren’t any decent retrofit Kluson tuners available-I wound up using mini-Schallers which just barely fit. I had to get the frets crowned as they were pitted and grooved-this poor thing had been played to death before I ever got it. Despite all that, it sounded great, but after playing the hell out of it for several years, I’d worn out the neck, and rather than put a crappy mid-‘70s neck on it, I traded it off. Got a ‘73 Gibson Les Paul Recording (this was in 1977) which sounded amazingly like the Tele did, plus I could get it to sound like a Les Paul as well, just with a lower output. If one ever shows up at Norm’s, I’d love to hear Lemmo do a GOTD on it! Very underrated guitars in my opinion. But I still miss that Tele!

I like jazz. On my ‘59, I got a much better jazz tone by using the neck pickup with the tone rolled back about halfway. The dark circuit was too muddy for me, and luckily, my ‘59 had been wired with the post-‘67 setup before I ever got it. Much more usable.

Hey Lemmo, not a great video to highlight what that guitar is capable of, BUUUUUUUTTTTTT, I highly enjoyed your performance. Not the perfect guitar for you, but you do pull out some nuances in a very nice manner. Thank you, Thank you, Happy New Year. I will look forward to hearing more from you, keep playing ! Thanks again, Cheers !! Oh, and to add validation to my comment, please reflect on how playable and great sounding the Fender ASAT Classic tribute series guitar, (which I play now), IS. 1959 Fender. OK , i'll give you that, but 2000 + Fenders, just as good if not better, and waaaaayyyyyyyyyyy CHEAPER ! Lemmo here surely deserves a Classic guitar, but does the classic deserve him ? See ? his music inspired THOUGHT! Enough said , play on world !

Fender didn’t change to the modern wiring until 1967. They did the same thing in the ‘70s with Strats. 5-way switches had been available since at least 1970, but Fender didn’t start putting them on Strats until 1977 or ‘78.
