Some corrections. Those aren’t HB-1s, they didn’t come until the end of the 60s, beginning of the 70s. Those are the mini-humbuckers, technically called their “anti-hum” pickups. The affectionate term for the Guild Bigsby is Guildsby. The “G” tailpiece is known as the harp tailpiece.

Actually Mark is right on the pickups.. They started mixing in the new pickups in about late 1965 or early 66, and was not a sudden change.. There was a period of time when both were being used. Mine is made a year before this one and has the later humbucker pickups....I have heard but not seen documentary proof, that some guitars as late as 1968 were still getting the early single coil pickups. Also, some players preferred the early ones and swapped them in. My Guild was ordered by someone else, but he could not afford it, and I played it since brand new at the dealer for my lessons where it on consignment.. Technically I am the second owner, in practical terms, the only owner. I have known the instrument since the day it arrived at the dealer, buying it some months after. It absolutely has the original pickups, made in 1966, not the single coils used earlier, which were somewhat similar to the single coils used by Gretch.

Jennifer WhiteWolf That may be, but those are the minis. I have Guilds with both types, and you can tell visually that those are the minis. One thing to look for it the space between the raised parts. If it’s the same width as the width of each raised part, it’s an HB-1, if it’s smaller, it’s a mini. Plus, overall, these are narrower than full size buckers.
@Acornhouseworkshop

I checked with Hans Moust about the pickups and when HB-1s were introduced. (He wrote the book on Guild, and has many of the factory records.) His response: “There are a lot of people who refer to the smaller Guild humbuckers from the ‘60s as HB-1s. It’s wrong! HB-1s were introduced towards the end of the year 1970.”

Today's setlist: 1. Monkees-I'm a Believer 2. Bee Gees-Stayin Alive 3. (artist unknown)-Ghost Riders in the Sky One small thing I've wondered: Is the term "wiggle stick" a likely genital reference in addition to slang for a whammy bar?

Mark said once he doesn't see many Guild Guitars on the West Coast. I agree I like to see variety also. I enjoy the pre CBS Fenders the most. But there's only so many of them around. I can't get excited over a 1978 Telecaster. LOL but he does do a show every day so probably not easy coming up with a guitar 300 times a year.

Not forgotten on the west either, mine is a 1966 Starfire V special order and I’m in the west. Mine was factory built with Bigsby delete, and a Haggstrum adjustable bridge. It was originally ordered by member of The Castaways of Minneapolis from Len’s Guitar City. When he could not afford it, it came to me and I have had it since new. That 67 has incorrect Gibson knobs on it, shameful, as correct knobs can be had from the new Guild.. The 4 did not have master volume. It IS Bigsby made for Guild, not a knock-off... at least back in the day. the master volume is there for a reason, to keep from overloading the first tube in the amp.. which has the volume control after it... Too freaking bad nobody knows how beautiful these can sound, because once again, all we hear is V1 in the damn amplifier clipping. This shit is getting old. It this a problem created by Norm? I have to ask, because on Marks own show, guitars are often played without clipping the amp.
@jenniferwhitewolf3784
@jenniferwhitewolf3784 5 жыл бұрын
David B. It every freaking day, day after day AFTER every freaking day. If you like it so its impossible to actually hear the guitar, thats fine. Some of us are tired of not hearing the instrument. Just hearing the damn freaking first tube overload tells nothing about the guitar. Any piece of shit guitar can make that sound.. If you actually understood something about guitars and music you would understand.. obviously you are completely ignorant of both.

Don't sweat it Jenn, Lil Davie B's got Carlos Shitarlos's tiny picker stuck in his ear from dusk till dawn and can't hear the difference between shite and shinola. It's not his fault, blame the hot sex between 1 has-been and 1 never-had-a-clue. Let them consummate in peace. "Ass Wednesday?" Did I hear that 7:47 right? BTW, Guild was originally all the craftsmen from Epiphone who didn't want to move to Kalamazoo when Gibson bought the name. They stayed on the East Coast and at first made guitars that looked just like the last Epiphone models before the takeover. And in the day they were every bit as good as any Gibson or Epiphone. Basically the same story as the Heritage company, workers who stayed in Montana when Gibson moved to Nashville and founded their own company.

Yup, Westerly, RI. Went to school with the son of their head of advertising. Used to have one just like the one in the video. Years later, traded Norm a 345 that I got in a pawn shop on Hollywood Blvd for $250 for a Guild F50 when he had his original shop in Reseda. Miss the 345 (it played great) but I needed a superior acoustic for recording after playing Bobby Womack's. Still have the Guild, still sounds superior, paid for itself many times over...

Tremolo is a gain stage modulated by a sine wave which causes the gain to shift from 0 to 10. It is the effect found in amplifiers. Vibrato is an effect of moving the string whether by bending the string across the neck (up and down) or between two frets (side to side).
