Cost cutting (and also weight cutting) led to the “new” Les Paul, which Mr. Paul hated as they didn’t ask him for input on the changes, so it was renamed “SG” (those early Les Paul labeled SG style guitars are rare and pricey). Cost cutting (again) led to the “pancake body” in 1969.
@sizematters51425 жыл бұрын
@@joermnyc They say he threw a fit in 1962 when the Les Paul SG first was introduced. He did nit like the guitar at all because of the way it was made. The neck joint on the guitars is weak. 60s SGs have a thin body and they should have used a neck through body design in my opinion, but did not because of cost. They really are cheaply made and they put Les Pauls name on them without asking him first. The wood they used in the 60s is what makes them so nice! It is a super light guitar with a Les Paul neck but the tremolos they used really sucked. I dont blame him for being pissed. Les Pauls are expensive to produce and they are still expensive to produce. Strats & Teles are not as expensive to produce! Ever see a single cut Gibson with a sideways tremolo? No because those tremolos suck.
@sizematters51425 жыл бұрын
Fact Gibson guitars made in the 50s & 60s with 1 pickup cost half as much as a 2 pickup model. There was no Custom Shop, you had to have it custom ordered.
@mattrogers19465 жыл бұрын
@@joermnyc Les also didn't like the neck dive of the SG. It's also been said Les was recently divorced from Mary Ford and wanted his name take off the guitar so he wouldn't have to share any royalties.

Lemmo has single handedly pushed the envelope and elevated his style that includes influences like Zepplin, EVH, Hendrix and all the rest to brilliant heights and come up with a playing style all his own. But he's little shy about his own prowess, that is of course until he get's prompted from on lookers who haggle him to expand on his impeccable technique.
