Cool to see a Guild on here! Very underrated guitars. The pickups are a little dark-I’d love to find one with DeArmond pickups in it! (the same ones used on ‘50’s Gretsches, except the ones Guild used had white top plates rather than black like Gretsch used.)I’m not so sure that the Bigsby wasn’t original to the guitar and replaced with the Guild harp tailpiece-I’ve never seen a Starfire VI that didn’t have a Bigsby.

Awesome guitar!!! Had my ‘66 Starfire V Custom, clear blonde, Bigsby delete, Haggstrum bridge, for 52 years !!! I do believe the pick guard might be a replacement... the V and VI had a color band around the edge, and a star graphic with a different Guild logo. This pick guard is more like the current lower end models are delivered with. Most of us just take them off... This is best as jazz and blues clean... will overdrive easily if you want, but with controls lower, its SO SWEET.. You can now buy the original “Guildby” by Bigsby trem bar setup from Guild if you wanted to restore that. VI and V were standard WITH the Bigs built vibrato, someone put the fancy OEM fixed tail on after build, but is absolutely the right tailpiece and vintage. I should hsve this... my blonde needs a redhead sister!

Ironically, as this video was being posted, I was in the process of getting myself another f-hole guitar which probably should’ve been in that Epiphone case, a Casino! Because I have played Guild acoustics since March 2011, I have occasionally considered getting an electric guitar model similar to this one. Just not gone through with it. I do have a question for Mark. Do you always choose the songs based on artists you are sure can be associated with the model you are playing?

Nice. Almost sounded muddy for the opener. Maybe tone was rolled back. Lots o' juice, though. I guess Buddy Guy used a guitar like this back in the day. Man, Glenn Tipton used one in an ad in the '80s. Myself, Starfire III single cut was on my 'wish list' as a kid . Sure, Jerry Garcia had one but so did my GF's older brother.

Got a 66 Starfire III on reverb for about 1200 USD last ear (non-original retro pickups) - best couch guitar in the world. Maybe an ES-330 would match it

Yeah, it doesn't even have to be on a Strat. Play slide on a Telecaster and do Bullfrog Blues. Rory was the first guy I ever heard to play pinched harmonics, but only because I hadn't heard Roy Buchanan then...... Seems like Rory had though.
