@Michael Turcott actually it's a trilby hat as it has the same front pinch on the crown as a fedora that forms a triangle when looked down on from above. Porkpies have a flat or more usually the centre pushed down with a ridge around the perimeter of the crown. Fedora think Indiana Jones, Trilby think Leonard Cohen, Porkpie think most UK ska bands (Madness, Special AKA. etc) and of course Walter White AKA Heisenberg AKA "the one who knocks"

To elaborate...it's not that the BD-2 is 'cheap'. More to the point, why play a demo through an expensive amp when the vast majority of viewers are going to end up sticking it in front of a much-more common Fender Deville/Deluxe, Marshall DSL or any of the other more accessible amps?

> Just in case you're looking for a really cheap pedal to put in front of your $2k boutique amp. Prince used to put a $350 Hohner Telecaster onto his million-dollar, multi-platinum records. And whenever he switched to his boutique "Cloud" or "Love Symbol" guitars, he sounded a lot worse than with the Telecaster.
@catboyzee
@catboyzee 5 жыл бұрын
I know, right? The clean and dirty tones Prince got with the Cloud and Symbol guitars were no where near as sweet as the sounds he got with his Madcat 'Hohner' Tele copy. Respect and RIP to the Purple One. @@derekmok

The BEST pedal you could have on your pedalboard. The Tone knob is very versatile. The range of gain is perfect and all very useable. Tip...get the volume of this pedal at 12 o’clock or higher for best sound. Turn your amp down to compensate.

I'm just starting to collect some pedals; Already picked up this Boss pedal and last night scooped up a Dunlop Crybaby, IBanez Tube Screamer & FX 55C Supra Distortion with a daisy chain power supply and cables - all for $100. After playing around with them using several guitars through my Fender Deluxe VM I didn't care for the single coil guitars nearly as much as the Les Paul types when using the drivers. Honestly the biggest surprise was the Supra Distortion - dirt cheap on ebay $10 - $30 and it gave some really angry guitar tone without having to crank the volume. I didn't test it extensively, but highly recommend giving it a try. Boss BD2 is probably my favorite and most versatile. Surprisingly, the biggest disappointment was the revered Tube Screamer when paired against the other 2. It lacked the power of the BD2 and the crunch of the Supra Distortion - maybe needs more playing time and experimenting.

Hey Marty, enjoying your videos. Appreciate that you show the settings on the dials on the pedals when you play. And as somebody just getting into pedals recently, I like seeing you fiddle with the pedal knobs to change sounds while filming. Don't know how much work would be involved, but would you able to demo with, say a Les Paul as well (single coils vs. humbuckers) and 1 or 2 additional amps and show the settings on the amps. Keep up the great work.

You paid $50 dollars plus shipping for a use boss blues driver when you can go to the store and buy a new one for $99. Or you can buy a used one at your local guitar store. I am a big backer of local guitar stores I understand that some may not have the money to buy new. If you are going to buy new skip your GC, Sweetwater, Reverb stores of the world and buy from your local guitar store when you can.

I have one of those boxes of pedals, too, man. Treasures of days gone by ... The BD-2 is a really good pedal for all around use, I think. It's a bit truer to the sound of your guitar than a Tube Screamer or Fulltone OCD, both of which are in the same ball park as the BD-2. Tube Screamers seem to have that kind of built in compression and I don't care for that. All three pedals are iconic. I like the BD-2 for its more natural sound and its less compressed nature. Especially for $50.00.

Sorry guitar noob here. What is the difference between this and an Ibanez tube screamer?

Those are great pedals. I loved my TS808 but if I would have on at the same time as my SunFace fuzz it would turn super muddy and dark; I would have to reach down and dime the tone knob on the tube screamer. The Blues Driver stacks very nicely with the fuzz. It is a bit bright compared to the TS but not bad. I like that it doesn’t attenuate as much low end as the TS. Overall a very similarly behaving pedal to a classic Tube Screamer for cheap.

Hey Marty, as far as cheap overdrive pedal, I bought a Behringer Vintage Tube Overdrive pedal. It cost right around $20 brand new (can't get much cheaper than that), so why not do a review on one of them. P.S. Loved the Snoopy riff mixed in with all of the other classic riffs you played
