Take soft fuzzy side of a velcro dot and stick it on your pick guard. Then stick the hard friction side on your pick. Your pick is visible at all times ,and in very close reach. I fingerpick,flat pick,and hybrid pick. This little trick works very well for my style.

I don't play bluegrass guitar, but I do use a V-Pick Freakishly Large Pointed on bass and it is the BEST bass pick that I have ever used. It has punch, bottom, clarity that is second to NONE!

I used the same V Pick as you for years and loved it, never try the Blue Chip Pick due to cost wife bought me a 3 pack of the Dunlop with beveled edge for Christmas 2 years ago and I've been stuck on them like the V Pick as you play and they warm up they'll stick to your fingers no matter what

Good to hear this, Paul. Right now in the early stages of using the Primetones they're pretty slick and hard to hold on to. But the tone is amazing!

I like my picks a bit sharper. Plus, mandolin picks are generally too small for my hands. I've used a similar pick called "Tradition Lite" which I like very much.

I used the V-Picks for a while and liked them. Only problem, you drop that clear pick on stage and it will vanish like a ghost. I hit it with some fine sandpaper to make it frosty but it seemed to lose some of the tacky grip feel. Prime tones now. They just work. A little monster grip patch on the thumb side makes them pretty stable.

The blue chip one sounds best to me out of my television, ( by a mile) , which is always different than actually playing the guitar. They may be expensive but they would be my choice for recording.

Hi, I’ve tried a lot of picks over the last 30+ years. The last 7-8 years I only use Dunlop primetone sculped plectra 0.73. To me it has the perfekt blend of bite and smoothness soundwise. I don’t like when picks are too “clicky” on the strings - and these don’t.

Hello my name's Al Gomez and I just saw this video oh, it's a little late but I did see this video in my opinion the v-pic is money for you, I used gravity pick it's a trip standard to which is a size 2, I'm a smooth jazz guitarist so I need my fix a little thicker but the gravity pick is money for me congratulations you are extremely good player

Hey Eric, first time I’ve seen your channel. Great Playing, very impressed! I see you’ve moved to the primetone grip version. Do you notice a tonal difference from the smooth version? There are lots of people on the acoustic guitar forum who say the smooth version has a warmer/better tone. I like the grips on other Dunlop picks, but if there’s a tonal difference between the smooth and grip I think I could get used to the smooth. They’re expensive in Australia, so was hoping to get your expert opinion before I start trialling the two versions in different sizes. Thanks!
@theericbeaty10 ай бұрын
Sorry for the late reply. There is a slight difference in tone. I'd probably agree that the smooth version is a bit warmer, but I prefer the attack of the gripped version. That's why I still use them to this day! If you're looking for a warm pick sound, a good alternative that might be cheaper is the D'Andrea Pro Plec (amzn.to/48KaQ4b). I used this triangle version for years before moving on to a brighter pick. The Pro Plec is a bit more rounded on the points, which is probably why it's a bit warmer in tone. Hope this helps.

Just making sure... The 1.5 prime tone pick are longer than the 1.3 ones ? Thanks for the review bud! It really helped me.

Not sure about the length, but the 1.5 is a thicker pick.

U should most definitely try a D'Andrea Pro Plec Rounded Triangle pic and or a Golden gate rounded!
@theericbeaty4 жыл бұрын
I have D'Andrea Pro Plec Triangle picks, but they're not rounded. I find myself slipping all over the strings if I don't have at least a standard point. I like them as well; they were my first good-sounding pick, but they ended up sounding too warm compared to other picks I experimented with.
@joshuaparkerrains53402 жыл бұрын
Yeah i like primetone. But i found with having more than one guitar, is that a pick or saddle ect. that sounds great on this guitar doesn't sound as good on a different one. Each guitar will tell u wat it likes n wat compliments it the best. But u r right one with the primetone. Its just slightly warm n slightly crisp.
@theericbeaty2 жыл бұрын
Good observation. I use totally different picks for my electric guitars. Currently, I mainly use Swiss Picks, but I also like the Dunlop Flow picks. Jazz XLs are good as well and not too small like the regular Jazz picks.

Which Primetone is that? I’ve been trying Primetone for a few days now. I normally use Dunlop Ultex Sharp 1.0. The Primetone I’m trying is the 1.5 large triangle and 1.3 standard shaped pick. I have 1.3 small triangle on the way. The problem I’m having is holding the large triangle differently. I’m noticing the tip of my pointer finger is hitting the strings. Thanks

I wasn't impressed with my Blue Chip at all. Way too expensive for what you get. So, I spent $50 and bought every common pick material that is available. I also was not impressed with real tortoise shell. I found that I like a 1.25mm Dunlop Delrin for my Martin dread. For my Gibson J45, I like a 1.5 celluloid. I also use the celluloid for my Tele. The 1 surprise I found was the Tusq heavy. That had a really great tone with my Tele for OD. My wife bought me a 2.5mm elk antler for Christmas that is interesting. Similar to Ultex but with some really great under-tones. I tried some buffalo horn too but they warped too easily. Sounded good though. I really liked the grip on the Prime Tone picks and the Little Stubby from Dunlop. But in reality, there isn't a lot of difference in any. Celluloid seemed to be the brightest. Ultex seemed to be the warmest. The most agile were Blue Chip, a 1.0mm brass and the Little Stubby. The pick I decided to choose was a 1.5mm celluloid for the majority of my picking needs. I'm also keeping a few of the Tusq picks for OD or distortion and my Taylor 414.

Wow, that's really some "hands-on" research! I still use and prefer my Dunlop Primetone Grip Tri-picks for acoustic and have since switched to Bog Street Battle Axe 1.5mm Ultex Black picks for electric.
