@@LonelyRocker Yeah I call it a Metal Amp LOL I got some cool blues tones from it but it has a strength for metal music which is what my old band played for 15 years live. We played out everywhere in Cincinnati, in and around the 275 loop up in Springfield LOL places like that Kentucky a few places. I had a mesa boogie cabinet back then BUT these Irs sound as close to my old cabinet as you can imagine. LOL Just upgraded to an RME 802 Fs interface so it really makes everything sound pretty wicked. Going from PreSonus to RME is a HUGE step itself LOL Keep rockin!

This is only like half of the features of this amp and they are the basic features IMO using the app is a great feature as well but in my opinion the midi footswitch is a must have for this amp, you could use an expression pedal with this amp, that’s one killer feature that no other amp in the market has and no one talks about these features and I’m happy about that.

I've had this amp for like 6 months now and just figured out the Red Box thing lol. What you said in the video about volume and being driven to modelers was exactly the route I took and why I got a Fractal FM9. Now I don't need it, and the GM40 feels way more realistic to play through headphones through my audio interface, record, and tweak real time with its real knobs.

Good review. One thing I don’t think you mentioned, unless I missed it, is the Power Soak. modes 0W, 1W, 5W, 20W and then the full 40Watts. 0W is great for apartment living late at night direct into your interface into your DAW. I typically use 1W after midnight and 5W during the day but hey 5W on the Ultra channel with settings cranked will get you evicted from any apartment in the world 😎 Good tip about switching off the cab emulation and using IRs. I’ve a NOS H&K CC212 50W cab (closed back) which is perfectly matched for this. I bought the CC212 6months before I got the GMD40 and was using it with my Bugera Infinity T50, a much maligned but great amp. I switch between the two but late at night it’s the GMD40. XLR out into my mixer is good too so you can hear it through studio monitors vs the cab. Cheers from NZ 😎🎸🤘

Thanks! Been a while since I did this. I don't use the Power Soak when recording the amp DI. I can control the volume in my computer so I just let the amp roar and it doesn't wake the family. Cheers fro Canada!!

@@LonelyRockercool. Oh sorry it's an Infinium T50 but meh. I typed "Infinity". The GMD40 is seriously versatile as you mentioned and where i live, out of respect o my neighbours, i don't crank it much. i mean 5W with settings up on any of the 4 channels is super loud !! People think that 40 W is 8 times louder than the 5W Power Soak - no, it's not - it's about headroom. Yes 40W is louder, but no not 8 times louder!! As i mentioned above - Police will be called if i have certain settings in the 5W mode for a sustained period of time - it's loud !!! Thx for the tip about switching of cab emulation and using IRs. The NOS CC212 i found ? I bought in early 2022. I emailed H&K the serial no and they said it was from 2009. Now that's the definition of NOS (that's New Old Stock for people that don't know). It had been sitting there for almost 13 years. The Bugera was NOS too - 2017 so 5 years. I bought the two together.

Hello I bought TUBEMEISTER DELUXE 40 and will connect it at my kemper power kabinet (it is a frfr cabinet with its own power supply) I am trying to connect, but speaker output of TUBEMEISTER DELUXE 40 is 8-16 ohms, Kemper power kabinet is a model with 4 ohms and 200w fluctuation so i want to connect cabinet to the Red box ae terminal of TUBEMEISTER DELUXE 40. However, my concern is that the power amplifier of the TUBEMEISTER DELUXE 40 will operate when outputting with the Red box ae terminal, so the power of the TUBEMEISTER DELUXE 40 and the power of the Kemper power kabinet will collide. If there is a dispatch problem, what kind of solution is there? I'd appreciate it if you could reply.

I’m sorry but I don’t use the Kemper. I don’t want to advise you wrong. You need to be aware of mismatches every time you use a tube amp as you could damage it. You might need to contact HK support for a better answer. Sorry I can’t offer more.

On this last Father's Day I got a really great deal on a Tube Meister Deluxe 20 at Long and McQuade. It sounds great! I've got amazing results tracking with Cabinet emulation on and off (plus IR). This is my very first tube amp and I'm wondering.... Is it possible to run plugins (for instance, Amplitube modulation pedals) into the FX loop? Do you have experience with it? Great video, thanks for sharing your knowledge and thoughts.

My pleasure! Enjoy it! In hindsight, I think I'd prefer the Tubemeister. I never use the built in effects on the GMD40. As for FX into the amp, I guess if you have the outboard gear to route the signal out of your computer and through the amp you could do it but that would be hard to explain in the comments. Plus I've never tested that. You'd need to take a DI out of the interface, run it through the amp and then back into the interface and set the correct outputs in the software. But watch those levels! Would be a fun test hough...good lick and enjoy the amp!

Great video, lot of work. I followed quite same process with my GD40 but using Two Notes Wall of sounds plugin for cab simulation. And I did the same with a Black Spirit 200 where it is even easier because the Red Box output level is constant, where the output of the GD40 Red Box follows the amp global level and depending the parts of your playing, some adjustement must be done. Problem of using effects from DAW plugins is that it will be really difficult to build the same sound on a live gig or even with a real cabinet connected to the amp.

Hello. From today I saw your channel and it is extremely useful! May I ask, I use Laney GH100R (because I fell in love with it the first time I saw it and decided to take it) I use it at home and for this reason I did not take the cabinet sound (too loud). I know that the sound will not be good when cooked with a cabinet. I connected it with an XLR cable from the input of the amplifier to my Yamaha mixer "MG10XU", would this cause great damage to my Laney AMP? Thank you and good luck in the future !!
@LonelyRocker3 жыл бұрын
Glad it helped! I don't know your amp but I looked it up. Seems it has a built in DI. If yous has this, then it's safe to plug it directly to a mixer. A DI/Load box is essential for a tube amp or you can damage the amp. YOu will need Cab IRs in your DAW to complete the tone. I have a bunch of videos on this topic on my channel.

@@h.valkanovthe_4th_550 my pleasure. My recommendation would be to bypass the built in cab simulation and just use the DI/load box portion. Does your mixer have a built in audio interface? Once your raw amp tone is in your computer/ recording software you can implement cab simulation with Cab IRs. You can access these via IR loader plugins or through standalone apps in your computer. I have done a few videos about this.

@@LonelyRocker Yes, I looked at your videos, very well arranged, but in the end I decided to take a Laney Cub with "HH" custom (( I don't understand why people underestimate them so much, apparently maybe they use them on cheaper amplifiers )) , which sounded a lot brighter than Vintage 30, but that's my taste. @@LonelyRocker I can’t agree more, I don’t like plugins tbh I love to be playing with a real amp, this has nothing to do with tone but just personal feel and taste, I love to dial in my own tones so presets don’t always cut it for me especially since I play random modern styles, so I’m not trying to sound like slash or EVH.

Thank you! I own both of those amps. They are both great and very different. The Grandmeister has more in it. That doesn't mean better. But if you can only have one, this will give you so much in one amp. 4 Channels plus Boost and Effects. The REVV G20 is a little monster and has a brilliant clean channel. The DI is better in the REVV. It's a Two Channel amp but the wide switch and aggression modes gives you more options on top. So really it comes down to what you need. It's worth noting the GMD40 is 40 Watts and the G20 is 20 Watts....for what it's worth ;)
