For some reason Thomann won't let me post my review of this guitar on their site so I'll post it here. ( I sent the review twice, got rejected twice.. this isn't my native language maybe that's it. I mentionned it was a "weapon" that could also be it ) ----- I've been playing on a half broken LTD EC-100QM for more than a decade. I decided it was time for an upgrade and a little change so I bought myself this guitar for my 30th birthday. I honestly couldn't be happier. First of all, it's a beautiful guitar. The smooth mat body, the natural looking maple neck and the contrast between the two makes for a sober yet modern look. The color and shape of the headstock is my favorite. The shiny model signature and the inverted headstock is the cherry on top. Overall it's very pleasant to look at. It's also got fluorescent fret markers as a bonus. When it comes to sound, I wouldn't say it's necessarily a metal guitar only : it's pretty versatile in my opinion. But you would be missing out if you didn't crank up some distortion while playing it. I play everything from Death, Alice in Chains, Metallica, Opeth, Tool to more modern/obscure stuff and the guitar handles it all very well. From prog stuff to bluesy stuff to metal : if you can play it the guitar will follow. The EMG mics are great and the sustain is really good. Everything sounds clear and pops out. The knobs and mic switch allows for even more options when moddeling sound. The overall feel when playing is very comfortable and smooth. I was struggling with some parts on my previous guitar but I know that I will make progress now that I have the fusion, especially for solos/shredding parts. The maple neck is out of this world. The bridge is very comfortable when doing palm mutes and resting your hands there feels like it was made for it. One thing I have to point out is that the frets were a bit rough and might need a bit of polishing but it's nothing dramatic. The guitar holds tuning really well thanks to the locking tuners. This is a welcome change for me as I don't find myself constantly re-tuning after every bend. The guitar came in perfect condition thanks to thomann. No scratches or anything weird. It was barely out of tune when it arrived. Overall I'm very pleased with my purchase and I highly recommend it. As other have said, the price/value ratio here is ridiculous and this might be one of the best guitars at this price.

Hi. How are you finding the playability and tuning stability now? I am thinking about a purchase... maybe the Tele version. Do you think that the guitar is suitable for the Post Rock genre eg with good cleans and heavier crunch tones? Cheers

@@keithb5612 Playability is just as good if not better now, I can see myself improving everyday because of how comfortable the neck is. Tuning stability is great, nothing to say here. I don't see how it couldn't handle what you wanna play, the cleans are pretty good on this guitar. As I said I think it's pretty versatile and imo you can play anything on any guitar, but if you like the style and the pickups of this one go for it you won't regret it.

I got one just like this a week ago, and I think its awesome, just needed a little action setup, and good to go, the frets were a little rough, but playing for a few hours, gets them smooth if you dont wanna pull the strings off and polish. Then a new set of strings and the frets are good. Played it loud in rehearsal with a full band, and it sounds great, pickups are really good. You get your moneys worth with this, no doubt. I have other HB's too that are good, but this is next level I think.

Had mine about 4 months. Very pleased with the build, love the sound of the EMG’s. Take always, neck dive. Fixed by loosening the inner upper neck screw, place leather strap hole in and tighten screw. Yea permanent but good way to prevent drilling ect. ,or what I call molesting the fiddle. The dark neck prevents good vision of the fret position markers due to the inlays are also dark. Easy enough to get other inlay markers and replace. Overall, very happy with the guitar and find a very well built guitar and well worth the money spent. Just loaded it up for the first road trip. Again, don’t be afraid to purchase this guitar.

The guitar looks stellar. I'm usually a Strat guy with a trem. But after having the TE-20 HH SBK for aa year I really like the fixed bridge. So if I get this in the coming year not sure if I need to do anything to it. Maybe make the battery compartment cover more robust or change the input jack to a Switchcraft #11? We'll see about the pickups. They might grow on me. I just hate batteries. But it does give me inspiration to somewhat mod my DC Custom Guitars quilted maple superstrat in the meantime.

Thank you so much for the review! I fell in love with this guitar the moment I saw it. It looks so good and now I know it sounds good, thanks to you. I can't wait to get my hands on it, this is a big upgrade for me and I'm pretty excited to play my favorite songs on it. I'm sure it will deliver and do what I want it to do. Did you change the strings? I'm thinking of putting 010-052s on them as I play both standard and D tuning ( sometimes lower too ) I think they'll be a good compromise for both? 011-054s might be too much tension what do you think.

I'm glad it's helped, thank you for watching! I've still got a set of 10-46 on but they do feel a smidge loose so might go to 11-49s as a start and then to the 52 if I need the lower tension more. I'd stick with 10s if you're going back to standard for sure for the best of both worlds. It's a really great guitar, what do you currently have? I'm sure it would make a great addition!

I'm glad you mentioned the Charvels. Maybe i'm biased, but it screams San Dimas to me. Also, you see elements of Solar because they're pretty much made in the same factories (i think). Or at the very least, made from very similar base designs.
@Metallex
@Metallex 2 жыл бұрын
The reason I went with the DK24 over the San Dimas is that the neckjoint is contoured on this one, and the body feels thinner than the San Dimas. San Dimas are still phenomenal guitars though! Higher end Harley Bentons are made in Indonesia - I honestly wouldn't be surprised if they did come from the same factory as Solars. WMI Indonesia have some great output. The other great factory is the CorTek facotry, which I've got the 290 Fat II waiting for review!
@johnwayne8114
@johnwayne8114 2 жыл бұрын
@@Metallex Exactly those two i suspect. They negotiate the contract and order large custom batches. Love the 290, minus the flame veneer (sorry). Sleeker then the AZ Ibanez series, even though they're probably the same factory. The headstock does bear a resemblance to the HB ST and Fusion series, that particular "beak". One more question? How's the Fusion's Nyatoh body? To me that's the biggest drawback that makes the Amarok better, and makes me think this fusion should of been priced a little lower. They say it's "similar" to mahoghany, but i'm not sure. Does it have the typical mahoghany thick, full response? Or is it more "open" like the rosewood subsitutes and such? That's another thing that sets it apart from the Charvels, as they tend to stick with the classic Fender alder.
@Metallex
@Metallex 2 жыл бұрын
@@johnwayne8114 It definitely has a warmth to it that people associate with mahogany. It's also being used as a mahogany substitute these days by industries outside of the guitar world too. I tried the Korean DK24 and the Mexican DK24, the former of which is swamp ash and the latter is alder. The Ash one sounded so thin it was really disappointing. These days the most important thing around the wood for me is the weight. I've got a bit of a dodgy shoulder so can't have a massive lump of heavy wood around my neck. One of the things that Nyatoh and especially Okume (which is used by Suhr on some of their custom shop models) is that you get a lot of that nice mahogany warm but from a lighter guitar. That's fair about the Cort, it's my first guitar with a veneer like this and I do kinda like it, but the world would be very dull if we were all the same :) The neck on it though, I don't know what this Ergo-V nonsense is but it feels amazing!

@@Metallex Thanks for the answers, networking with players is great in this gear market, as reviews are always somewhat lacking. I still wonder what other crazy stuff will HB come up with, every two years or so they release something so "out-there" and affordable it's crazy, along with the others. Hope they keep it classy, and don't resort to eye-catching gimmicky stuff, a kind of "selling out". This Fusion model is the first one in the series i actually find elegant. Cheers!

@@Metallex saw a few cool videos lately that show that tonewood is indeed a myth. In one a guy put pickups on a 2x4 and they sound exactly the same. Darrel Braun has a great one where he literally starts cutting away big hunks of the body, and it sounds the same. It's the placebo effect for sure.

For the price - yeah, you can skip the chip at neck pocket probably. Recently bought Axion Label Ibanez and it already had a thin crack line from 6th string side in a typical neck pocket place. For 1k+ it's not adequate, it may progress and I don't want to deal with it on a brand new product. Replaced with Amarok-6 for half the price with neck-through.. I'm honestly tired with these neck pocket cracks, so I'm not sure I will buy another (at least new) bolt-on neck guitar.. Gd dmt, after so many years nobody fixed this design issue - that's so stupid.
@Metallex
@Metallex 8 ай бұрын
I have no idea what causes it - apparently they blame it on humidity, age or whatever but it's absolutely not on they come with finish flaws. Thankfully at least it wasn't the wood cracked but when you buy a new guitar it's not unreasonable that it's in mint condition.

The EMG Hot 70 bridge pickup can sound a bit too thin/tight and shrill, but it depends on what style you play and what kind of amps/amp sims you run them through. I would much have preferred a good set of passives, but the Hot 70s are not bad (especially for the price point). They also sound quite scooped through high gain amps. I'm thinking of selling my Charvel San Dimas with Duncan JB+59, buy one of these and swap the pickups to a JB+59 set. It just looks so much better with the roasted neck, reversed headstock and it has 24 frets. Aside from that this guitar is pretty much identical to my Charvel.

Contemplating if I should buy this one or T style...but its bothering me that nobody, not one person, noticed that bridge pickup isn't at standard location. Wondering why they moved bridge pickup away from the bridge. Some years ago an Epiphone issued SG with EMG pickups...and they also put bridge pickup further away from the bridge. Confused about that decision too. So for now I will pass buying until more info pops out about this "issue". Keep rockin' good people and stay safe. DD

You know what? I never noticed but now you've mentioned it I can see it! I know that sometimes pickups are angled on guitars to give different tonal and harmonic overtones based on their placement so maybe it's a deliberate decision to move it away from the bridge to cater for a particular sound they wanted from the pickups?

@@Metallex Yeah, understandable. If it sounds good who cares, right? But it will always makes me wonder if this pickup could sound better if its installed on usuall location. @ScottDainesMusic 2 жыл бұрын
@@Metallex The Amarok is fantastic, few minor things to note would be the jack plug can slip out but can be solved by just shaping the connector to fit a lead a bit better, the pickup selector switch goes up and down rather than at an angle like you would find on an S type guitars switch, again easily solved by just loosening it and turning it to the desired angle then tightening it back up. Everything else you'd expect on an import guitar (slightly scratchy frets, bit of leftover dust to wipe off, adjust string height etc) but so happy i decided to buy it, the satin finish is amazing, the neck is a lot chunkier than i expected but i prefer those kind of neck shapes, the EMG Pickups are brilliant, very articulate. The upper frets are so easy to get to, the Grover locking tuners work perfectly. For the money i am blown away! How does the neck of this Fusion feel? Slim or Thick? does it have a satin like finish?
@Metallex
@Metallex 2 жыл бұрын
@@ScottDainesMusic It's got a natural finish on the neck, it's so smooth. The SC Custom + had the satin finish go all the way up which I wasn't a fan of. The neck feels...really good. It's a modern C so it's not at all chunky. Feels good in the hand but super easy to navigate around. It's somewhere near to a DK24 neck but a bit more body, or like a thinner Solar neck.

@Metallex 2 жыл бұрын
The routing jobs are spot on. Mine has a slight chip on one side of the neck pocket from the actual cutting is immaculate. The frets need a polish but that's about it. As I said, if you buy a higher model of Harley Benton the QC issues seem to be much rarer than on the lower priced/spec'd models.

I am really conflicted, because I wanted to upgrade my prs se 24 standard (with fishmans, I'd be keeping those) and my kort kx300. And here we have a guitar with a shitload of features and the same price... How good does it play, compared to other more pricy guitars? Should I get one of these and plek it? or spend that bit more and get something else considering I'm a giging (but on an amateur level) musician?
@Metallex
@Metallex Жыл бұрын
I've got a Charvel DK24 as well. In all honestly the Charvel does play and sound better but it is a LOT closer than I would have guessed before playing both. This is rock solid for a gigging guitar, it'll do the job no problem.

Thanks for the review. I am thinking about a purchase. Do you think this guitar and pickups are suitable for the Post Rock genre eg Mogwai/Russian Circles with pristine clean and heavier crunch/distortion tones? Cheers
@Metallex
@Metallex 2 жыл бұрын
I think it could absolutely do that! What you have to remember with this guitar is that the pickup set is geared towards a more classic rock/metal tone. With the right amp, however, anything is possible!

What's the closest to these but with passive pickups? Love the matt black. Something about battery compartments that I hate LOL.
@Metallex
@Metallex Жыл бұрын
Honestly, you're probably looking at a Charvel DK24 for comparable specs for a similar price. I'm a big Seymour Duncan fan, maybe you can find a Solar 2.6 from a retailer (if you're in the UK/EU for a bit more money) that has SDs in too. Some of the Fusion IIIs in the range also have passive pickups but you don't get the look unfortunately!

I find this to be better. The Tele is a nice guitar but it felt very slow to me and the sound was a little darker than I wanted.

Iron Maiden are a British Heavy Metal band who've released 17 albums since 1980 and have been hugely influential in the metal world. They're still touring today and regularly sell out arenas. Some great albums to check out would be Powerslave, Somewhere In Time, Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son, and Brave New World!
