I didn't realize we can do vibrato with the left hand while keeping the right hand tapped on the note. Interesting trick!

@@tomhessmusiccorp Yeah same here, i never thought about doing vibrato with the the left hand. Awesome Video Tom!

Wow. Your vibrato is insane. I was listening to just a part of this video and then had to rewatch the whole thing. As a side note, it's nice to see a player who has larger hands playing loud and clean tapping. I always assumed some of my tone issues were having big fingers, but this video helped me realize it's all my mediocre technique.

Well done, and I thank you! I've been playing since 93-94, but self taught, and this is brilliant! Cheerz!

1 I love all of your videos. and lessons I can find/buy on your side, some are soooo simple yet so meaningful, and spot on. 2 Rob Chapman guitars.. always a +1. 3 the Tom in the left side than right side and so on in the video's always make me smile.

Truly phenominal!but i was wondering if what would you suggest if i want to hold the pick as is while tapping .without creating extra noise.thanks !

Good stuff 👍. Doesn’t it matter though concerning the volume of the amp and the distortion??
@hernandoferrera15733 жыл бұрын
In my opinion, it depends. There are fast licks that don't need vibrato with tapping. There are others where vibrato make it sound better because you want to make that note sustain. It's a really cool technique. Like you said, it brings life to the notes. Thank you.

Speaking of tapping, my main problem is I can't tap properly on strings other than the first one. Is there any exercise you recommand? Thank you.

Hi, thanks a lot making this kind of tapping video. I remember requesting it on the students forum. I will take these principles and start practising them right away. I didint think about vibrato when tapping and practising it earlier. I think it sounds lot more creative with vibrato sometimes, after the fast parts. Good muting tecnique also, i try to copy that. I have used some own muting technique but not fully sure was it so effective what you suggested. This is good way to learn also single string scales, lot of fun and sounds good. Thank you Tom Hess!

Really cool lesson. It’s one of those obvious things that we just don’t ever think to do when the picking hand is taking the highest note. Definitely going to get some use out of this.

Awesome lesson, thank you! Reminded me of Chuck Schuldiner's tapping. Could you tell me what guitar that is?

Glad you like it! :) The guitar in this video is a custom-made Russian guitar (Svet) one of my students had built for me in 2016.

I was doing vibrato with left hand while tapping without even realizing it :D i have a question tho.. how do you mute high strings if you are tapping on for example D string? Is it enought to mute just G string in this instance?
@tomhessmusiccorp3 жыл бұрын
Mute the higher strings using your fretting hand index finger. I show how to do this here: tomhess.net/UnwantedGuitarStringNoise.aspx

I never know how much gain is actually needed to make these notes ring. Or do you need to practice the tapping basics with clean sound ?
@Jonny54463 жыл бұрын
Great sound Tom. I couldn't quite make out though, when you're applying the vibrato do you allow the finger that's holding the tapped note to move at all up and down the fret as you bend the string or do you really dig in to try to keep it in position?
@tomhessmusiccorp3 жыл бұрын
The finger doing the vibrato moves the string. The tapping finger stays in position and presses the string down.
