I think he played the Ibanez always with the tone all rolled down, while he played the epi both with open tone and closed tone.

Both sound great. Just choose one or perhaps both. The playing of Mr Zambelli was outstanding.

Never mind the foam, how can you compare a 1 pup to a 2 pup guitar? A treble pick up at the bridge is a game changer
@zeppy1313113 жыл бұрын
Is it my imagination, or is that the piece of foam plastic between the bridge and top that the manufacturer inserts for shipping? You've left that in there? How can you give an accurate demonstration with the bridge insulated from the top?
@billmccormack19003 жыл бұрын
As soon as you started to play the Epiphone, and before you hit the switch to include the back pickup, I thought the Epiphone sounded nicer to my ears - more mellow, warmer.
@guillegringo11 жыл бұрын
epi seems to be more versatile, great smooth tone with this setup in the video, ibanez is great to pat metheny fan's , great pat's style guitar tone.... i love it!!

Removing the protective shipping foam under the bridge on the Ibby might help the tone a bit.

I didn't watch every second of this, but my opinion is that I prefer a two (or three) pickup to a single-pickup guitar in most cases for tonal flexibility, variety and available options, even if I don't use all that flexibility, all the time. This is true for single-pickup jazz boxes, as it is for Esquire-type single-pickup Telecasters, and single-pickup Precision basses (split coil or single coil)

Wonderfull Soundcheck, great Player. Thanks a lot for this Demo. But I still don`t know what is the right one for a Jazz starter like me. Both sounds so beautifull! :)
@SPayne-vn5od4 жыл бұрын
There is no need to give the packing under the bridge so much focus. Its really porous and thin and I got a jazz box with it on, played it both ways during setup and the difference was inaudible to me. also it protects the spruce top from being damaged by a rosewood bridge base. Spruce=soft. rosewood=hard+no padding = scratches.

The Epiphone won this round, but the amp EQ needed to be different to showcase this Ibanez......both good guitars but the Epi crossed the line first! I would love to hear this Epiphone up against the Ibanez GB 10...now that's a great axe!
@Guitar6ty10 ай бұрын
Its better than the GB10 which is one of the worst guitars I have ever had to play.

I prefer any Ibanez for their better fretwork, craftsmanship and electronics by default. Epiphone are "ok" when they are setup properly and if I owned one I'd play it irregardless of my nitpicky instincts.

Beautiful playing. Just curious - the pad between the bridge and the body... What did that give you that without would not? I am looking at getting the Epiphone Joe Pass Emperor II Pro with the coil-tap pots for more latitude in tones. What did this pad under the bridge bring you? Thanks bro. Again, really nice playing. Thanks for this. Cheers. (I am a 68-year-old 53-year vet on guitar and just want a nice hollow-body for this kind of stuff. I have a 335 which I love dearly, but I still want more.) LOL

It seemed like a little bit skewed well actually unfair comparison. If I HAD only this video to go by the Epi would win hands down. I have however listened to both type guitars in other venues and the Epiphone is the Winner. Ibanez pickups just sound a little thin and tinny to my ear. Plus the Epiphone has coil splitting making it a more versitile instrument. IMO

why is that the tone is always rolled back on the Ibanez? it makes the guitar sound like it was under a blanket, which is fine in some arrangements, but not a comparison. no wonder btw that the Epi is more versatile with the two pups. I guess the the Ibanez is for the people that found their own tones in it, the Epi gives you more chance to experiment.
