i once tried to jam with my friend (we both play guitar) and it just turned into him showing off all the songs he knows and me sitting there doing nothing. Nah, everyone should be playing electric guitar with heavy distortion while one guy sweep picks while the others just shreds their plectrums trem picking like they're playing black metal. Its music to my ears. Record it all, not with your phone, but with a second hand tape player with built in microphone and you'll probably earn a bunch of money for being original.
@JS_Guitar09Ай бұрын
It's not complete without either one friend videoing with a phone, without any camera stability at all, or a phone propped up so you can only see one of the guitar players, and then it falls down partway through, so he stops playing to prop it back up

I had this exact experience a lot of times with my friends when we were kids. Everyone had an electric guitar, so we would get together and try to do something. But we didn't even know what a jam was! So we played the most basic riffs any guitar player knew like smoke on the water, paranoid, iron man, whole lotta love, sweet child o mine....that sort of stuff. It was horrible and we didn't get to anywhere! but I'm quite fond of those memories...

It's also interesting for two guitar players to play with the same strumming pattern and the same chors, but in different positions - one on the open positions, one with the capo. That way they are layered like acoustic guitars in the studio recordings often are.

@riccardovacca6707Ай бұрын
I’ve jammed many times with beginners and with pros. Just put a capo somewhere so the chords are the same but the feel is different boom done. If no capo either you learn all the possible positions of chords or barre chords the root note and you should be just good. Right hand is the important one so as long as somebody can feel even a bit of rhythm you should be able to guide him/ them. I played Circles by Post Malone at Ostello Bello many times with people who never touched a guitar and after 5 minutes they got the feel of the bass line and we played it good.

We used to just have everyone who played choose an octave and we'd all play the 4 chords chord progression. there would be a few people who don't play, but once we got going, the game would be to jump in and sing whatever song popped into your head that fit. It sounds daunting, but once a few start singing the entire room joins in. Some of my best memories are being in college dorms with 12 roommates jamming out like this.

Another cool thing is play the "Conductor" which can be done by a friend that doesn't even play music. At first, everyone plays, then the conductor points, say 2 of the players, and that means everyone has to shut up and now it's a duet. But say, they feel like just being two seems to put too much pressure on them and the music doesnt go anywhere, and it's embarassing. Then, boom : conductor points again at both of them + a third person, that way, it's more comfortable. Every situation can arise, like, there's this one dude that won't shut up ? Just point him alone. You wanted to shine ? Now's your time bud. Entertain us. Maybe the person will actually have interesting things to say, maybe they will understand that the worth of their music is as good as the context everyone happily provided for him even when he was on his ego trip. In that case, why not bring everyone back one by one so that they can gradually express themselves differently. Anything is possible. Picking weird instruments pairs. If there's only guitars, telling people 'play like a bass" or "play like a sitar" or whatever to keep things interesting when you point them. < I really have fantastic memories of workshop in my jazz university about that, especially because it was "improvised music" workshops. I didn't say "jazz" or even "free jazz", I said improvised music. Noise turned into coherence without thinking about chords, melodies or rythm. Extremely freeing individually and can create marvelous collective sounds, even with the people that barely play an instrument. It's not about technique, it's about intention, and technique is a mere catalyst for your intention, not the other way around.

a good guitarist can jam with another good guitarist, they back and forth and share little looks at eachother so they know when a solo is coming or whos turn it is. one guy plays the basic open or bar chords and the other plays harmonic variations. i played with a dude who knew like all of the top 20 solos flawlessly but couldnt keep up with 3 chord campfire songs, had absolutely no concept of volume and how the group sounded as a whole. technically he was the "best guitarist there" but he was trash, put all of his skill points into flashy nonsense and now cant improvise or even follow basic chord changes.
