The "Classic" has 768 options with switches alone, not counting the knobbies. The switches on the "GT2" give you 27 options through the switches. With 768 amp modeling options, I may gravitate toward 2-3 "optimal" settings. With 27 settings, I'm more likely to try out all 27.

Best amp modeler I think I may have heard. And funnily enough it was made like thirty years ago.

Schematic-wise, it's basically a high-gain boost and an EQ. Crazy how well they built it.

@@gelatinous6915 yes, I had to open mine up as it stopped working... I couldn't believe how minimalist it is inside. You expect a bunch of components... its almost magical what they did.

@@mikethebloodthirstyit’s all in the small square card connecting the pots. It’s smaller than SMD. If you break it you’re fckd.

...and it's pure analog! No latency, no menu diving, no aliasing, no ridiculous power supply requirements... just a simple amp-in-a-box that does its job very well.

I dug mine out of storage, had always remembered loving it and playing for hours. The Clean Amp dip setting is really kick-ass over-the-top, and a couple other settings are super-fine. Age has crapped out the amplifier drive knob on mine, all the others work with no problems, so I won't be trying to sell it, but will def be using it for recordings and playing along with YT backing tracks.

That happened to mine (original from decades ago) but I fixed it by speaking contact cleaner into each pot (4...from the inside) as well as the input and output jacks. Now it's just like brand new again. Give it a try.

If you have one of the early models, be careful when connecting DC power; it’s center positive, so you’ll need a converter cord for your power supply.

I liked the sounds on my sansamp, but the seemingly limitless settings proved overwhelming. I’d get a great sound that I could never remember how to get back to, getting lost somewhere in between. It was a bit awkward to have to drop to the knees and pull out tweezers to flip those tiny switches between changes.

Great sounds!!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥 💪

I didn't like every sound, but some of them beat the tones you could have gotten out of a modeller until recently. Wishing I had one of these back in the day instead of a Pod.

Nice playing as always, this is not my favorite pedal however, I had one back in the 90s and I just didn't care for it and still don't. Thanks for the demo, I was wondering if I just did not like it back then and my ears changed.
@jessedelaney773 жыл бұрын
It’s not a pedal. It’s a preamp. It’s meant to go straight into a PA or DAW and replace your amp.
@CoolhandLukeSkywalkr9 ай бұрын
@@jessedelaney77Kurt literally used it as his main distortion pedal for the last Nirvana album, which is reasonable for much of the hype and legend surrounding this unit.

super helpful demo as always. one possible suggestion: perhaps when you tell us what guitar you are playing, maybe it would also be useful to indicate what pickup you are using and what the volume/tone levels are on the guitar

It’s funny how most bass players seem to embrace solid state power amps and things like sans amp pre amps. Even straight to FOH.
@TheElephantRoom110 ай бұрын
As a bassist, I'll comment on this. I owned a Buster Bass 200 for awhile, and I got tired of every damn bar owner asking me to turn down after the first, and then second, songs. So, after I got the bass driver di, I just brought my practice amp to shows and ran the sans amp into the board/snake. As for the tube sound, I've been playing guitar for almost as long as bass, and I won't touch a solid state guitar amp. Bass benefits from having really fast response time (especially with slap pop stuff) and I always felt like tubes are a little saggy in their response times. Guitar benefits from that, but IMO bass doesn't.

Yeah there are some dud settings, but aren't you a musician? Can't you form a backing track in the theater of your mind where even some of the duds work? You'd be surprised at how many instances of great recordings, great songs, where a SansAmp preamp was used. Btw, SansAmp is not "misleading because it's a preamp, not an amp", as one commenter says. When the SansAmp came out it's name conveyed a new concept of having a full amplifier sound in a pedal.
@erpringle3 жыл бұрын
It's not an amp, it's a preamp. Misleading, I have the orange terror stamp and that is an amp. Has a lot more options. FOH, speaker cab, etc. J.S.

what is misleading? that it has the word 'amp' in the name?
@sevynn3970 Жыл бұрын
“Sans” means “without” so the name actually indicates “without an amp” 🤦♂️
@jamesearl389 Жыл бұрын
No, you’re 100% incorrect. It is designed to take the place of a MIC’D AMP in your signal chain. This has been true since it came out in 1989.
