people,it doesn't mean that if you don't play the riffs,you're not a lead guitarist anymore,jack plays the octaves,the one where you only play two strings,most of the time the A and G strings,and about the Straight To DVD thing,I watched some raw video of the actual show here on youtube,everytime jack will not play his guitar nothing will come out of the amplifiers,pretty sure they dubbed the parts that jack didn't play to make the DVD sound better

Steven Martin No, not at all. You two are both wrong. Matt Colussy was the one that was playing guitar in this video, but Bryan Donahue covers that part now. He's not there to play rhythm whenever Alex's gets tired and doesn't want to play. He plays third guitar parts or lead (Jack's part). You can see in STD that Colussy is playing Jack's part throughout the DVD because he would run around a lot more than he does now and stop playing just because. Other than that, Bryan just plays third guitar parts, not Alex's part.

And if youre referring ti the verses, im guesing you dont understand the concept that Alex doesnt play majority of the time so Jack has to do the rhythm there, switching to the lead part after playing rhythm would sound extremely horrible thats why Jack doesnt bother playing the lead and has the 3rd guitarist do it.

So how come Alex plays the leads in most songs then?? Jasey Rae, Shameless, Reckless & The Brave, Break Your Little Heart, Lost In Stereo, etc. Jack can obviously play competently enough to play in a band. But there's a reason they have a 3rd guitarist, and it's to play the parts that Jack can't play (Intro to If These Sheets, The lead line in I Feel Like Dancin, etc) Go Watch the DVD, Jack "looks like" he's playing, but most of the time it's the 3rd guitarist off stage (like in Too Much)

People don't seem to get the concept of that 3rd guitar. Yes, Jack is labeled the "lead" guitarist but he does rhythm actually like 99% of the time. That 3rd guitarist is the actual lead guitarist. He's great. Alex gets to take a break sometimes from rhythm when that guy plays lead and jack like most times plays rhythm.

Hardly a change, they've been using third guitar parts since The Party Scene. What the issue is, is that the third guitar, which is not played by a band member, is playing the most complex parts. If you need a crew member to play the difficult parts for you, then that's messed up.
