Peter Frampton is an amazing guitar player! Very unique solos and he has a very distinct style. He doesn't sound like anybody else, and unbelievably, he still tours! Saw him a couple years ago and he is still just as good.

Deeply regret not getting to one of his concerts in college in the 70s.
@LJA466 ай бұрын
His guitar sound goes through the talk-box on the floor which houses a speaker, that sound goes up the tube to his mouth which he essentially just shapes the word, and lastly out the mic to either the sound board or an amp to the sound board.
@troyfarris563522 күн бұрын
It's called a talk box, the box is connected to his amplifier and his guitar is connected to the box. And a tube runs from the box up a microphone stand and into his mouth. And he has to continuously play his guitar to get sounds that he controls with his mouth! It's Great!!!!!!
@aandpman Жыл бұрын
Invented by sound engineer, Dr. Bob Heil (Heil Microphones), the Talk Box literally is a box with a speaker inside, that pipes the guitar sound thru the little tube, and into the perfomers mouth. Rather than his own vocal cords, he mouths and shapes the words & sounds of the guitar.

Sorry I'm late to the party, but for those of you who don't know the story of the Les Paul Custom that Frampton is playing, it's worth Googling and going down the rabbit hole for awhile. A fan loaned him the guitar after Frampton was having feedback issues with his own guitar. He fell in love with it, traveled the world performing with it and lost it in a plane crash, supposedly burned with the rest of the cargo. Thirty years later, the guitar shows up and is returned to Peter. NPR has a really nice write-up on the history and Frampton's reaction to reuniting with his old friend. Check it out!

I believe it is that the guitar sound flows through a tube to his mouth and then he uses his mouth to shape the notes into words
@ljorgw Жыл бұрын
The signal from the guitar goes through the talk box and the sound is sent up the plastic tube into his mouth. He then makes shapes as of he is talking and the mic captures it.
@twwtjohns Жыл бұрын
The voice box is a piece of 70s technology where a tube from a foot control ran up the mic stand and into the guitarists mouth. When activated the guitar played through the voice box up the tube into the guitarists mouth then into the microphone. Easy.

19 year old me saw Frampton and Spirit live in Toronto(August 1976). it was at the peak of Framptons success as he had the worlds best selling live album(Frampton Comes Alive) for many many years after this. it was an amazing concert in front of about 40k fans. Frampton was very close friends with the Beatles, particularly Ringo and George and first heard the talk box being used by George Harrison during recording of "All Things Must Pass" Would be great to see you react to more Frampton. some info on the talk box... A talk box is an effects unit that allows musicians to modify the sound of a musical instrument by shaping the frequency content of the sound and to apply speech sounds (in the same way as singing) onto the sounds of the instrument. Typically, a talk box directs sound from the instrument into the musician's mouth by means of a plastic tube adjacent to a vocal microphone. The musician controls the modification of the instrument's sound by changing the shape of the mouth, "vocalizing" the instrument's output into a microphone.

Yesterday I watched a reaction video from an American musician. He reacted to Beth Hart / Joe Bonamassa and he never heard of them. He was told that Beth Hart was similar to Janis Joplin and Joan Armatrading. He knew Janis Joplin but never heard about Joan Armatrading. I couldn’t believe it. And today Toby never heard about Peter Frampton. Hard to believe that someone who plays guitar and is (at least a bit) interested in Rock Music never heard of Peter Frampton or Humble Pie. Another reactor reacted to Coolios Gangstas Paradise and didn’t knew that the original was by Stevie Wonder (Past Time Paradise). Many are also fascinated by Alip Ba Ta and Josephine Alexandra but never heard of Leo Kottke or John Fahey. It makes me sad that (I believe) in a few years all those great musicians who invented new sounds and were really famous will be forgotten.

Peter Frampton is an English rock musician, singer, songwriter & producer. He was previously associated with the bands Humble Pie & The Herd. I had his famous 1976 album "Frampton Comes Alive". His biggest hits are "Show Me The Way," "Baby, I Love Your Way," "Do You Feel Like We Do" & "I'm In You". He was famous for using a talk box in live performances.

Saw Frampton do this in Munich at the Circus Krone in '76, if I remember correctly. I was stuned by his guitar playing but what really stuck with me was I thought he was playing just for me. He made eye contact with members of the audience and made you feel he was playing just for you. Great concert.

Many people don't realize how HUGE this song was, especially the live version from the 1976 album, Frampton Comes Alive. To put into perspective, this was the biggest selling record in '76, and it was up against the debut Boston album, The Eagles Hotel California album, as well as Fleetwood Mac's Rumors album, to name a monstrous few!! Peter Frampton was King of the rock & roll world in '76. Hard to imagine when you realize who the competition was back then.

Hey Toby, Not so good news from docs and having a rough one, so came for some music to lift me. Im so stoked ur doing Frampton, Love it. Was obsessed with his talk box in the 70s. Guilty, total groupie, back when we had no internet or social media an had to really follow ur favorite artist. The transition makes u melt into the music...His guitar is enhancing his voice. The talkbox is an effects unit that allows musicians to modify the sound of a musical instrument by shaping the frequency content of the sound and to apply speech sounds (in the same way as singing) onto the sounds of the instrument. Thanx so much for this awesome blast from the past. Be well, Peace
