Very interesting interview with mike stern. I'm a horn player and have listened mostly to guitrists, whereas he listens to horn players alot. I play sax and flute.... we are somewhat limited in terms of sound by defnition compared to the myriad of gear available to guiatr players. Yet mike found his unique sound that is so recognizable of it being his, that works with pretty much anything you can think of.... Also phrasing wise, while sometimes played down as bluesy, unnteresting, I see loads of melody and A GREAT DEAL OF DYNAMICS AND UTMOST ATTENTION to every note he plays. In a context of complex jazz-fusion that he's mostly known for, he brings melody without holding off on tension when it's needed. So much research into his playing. My hat goes off to him. Hope to play and share music with him at some point....
