I love the line "I complained the whole way there" because I too complained about visiting the grandparents when I was younger and wanted to hang out with my friends and now I miss them so much
@ashton5982 жыл бұрын
@@pilarslittlestudio I think it also could’ve been referring to when she was younger and her grandmother would take her to like a lake or something like that. During a car ride, she may have complained…idk if that makes sense
@stepanova82 жыл бұрын
@@pilarslittlestudio Taylor was around 13 when her grandmother passed. So, no, she didn't complain on the way to the funeral. It was just a remembrance of being little and complaining while on a long car ride. In looking back, she wished she had realized how little time they really had, and how she wished she hadn't complained but used the time to learn as much from her grandmother as she could.
@dani010203stor2 жыл бұрын
@@pilarslittlestudio no, i think she complained in some common trip. Instead of complaining she should have asked her questions and spend and enjoy time with her (she couldn't have asked her questions if she was dead)

The suspense while you're reading her wiki page and still didn't realised that she's Taylor's grandma is hilarious
@rileyponders35402 жыл бұрын
this song makes me think specifically about that moment (often in childhood) you realize your family members exist outside of their relationship to you. Like your mum isn’t just your mum she has a name and maybe used to have a different one, she’s known countless people and she’s had an entire messy flawed beautiful human life that you eventually just came into. And consequently it makes me feel that ache of maturing to that stage of realization after you’ve already lost that person and knowing you’ll never get to have a relationship with them as the fully conscious person you now are. It’s a deep embarrassment and regret and shame even though you were just a child, you just wish you could show them how much you’ve changed. “and I complained the whole way there, car ride back and up the stairs. I should have asked you questions”

That picture of baby Taylor ,with her Grandma , playing the piano shows how Marjorie influenced and introduced her to music., what a beautiful tribute to Marjorie !

Your reaction to Marjorie exemplifies why I have loved my Taylor Swift journey. Her lyrics matched to unmatched melodies bring about emotions in ourselves that we sometimes don't understand, but are fiery raw. They strike a chord that resonates hard. Her best songs aren't just heard but are deeply felt.

In tears myself watching this. My granny passed away when I was 16. We were the only two left-handed people in my large extended family and, like Marjorie, she always really encouraged my creative brain in everything from painting to performing. After she passed I inherited her sewing machine and supplies and found among them some passport photos and the handsigned receipt for her old machine. These are my "grocery store receipts" and I treasure them so much
@LeannahW2 жыл бұрын
The part about saving grocery store receipts and stuff gets me so bad. My grandma passed away a few days after my 8th birthday and before that I spent literally every day almost all day with her, I lived right down the street and my mom was her carer, she was taken by cancer. I just remember helping pack up her house and I kept every little thing I could find. The only thing I really have left if any of it is a necklace, a really cheap one but I still wear it because I can just see her wearing it and it makes me happy.

You're the opposite of a phoney and very brave. Thank-you for sharing your reaction and not trying to wallpaper it. I also cry when this video ends. Taylor is a very faithful communicator of some of the toughest events we go through and is able to translate her reflections into our own in a beautiful way.

Honestly im a newer fan of Taylor (started during lockdown with her album Folklore) and I havn't had an artist conjure up emotions like Taylor does with some of her songs. The way she sings it, writes it, all of it is.. on another level. A lot of her heart and emotions are put into her songs, and its why i've grown to respect her so much as an artist. Not many out there do this at the level she does. Looking forward to see what she comes out with next!

I love this one a lot. I think the bridge hits so hard because it's when she switches from the 'advice' part of the verse to personal recollections, and it ties it what she meant to her all together. Thank you for your reaction!

First time I heard this one it made me bawl my eyes out. The line that personally hits me is "all your closets of backlogged dreams and how you left them all to me". Because presumably Marjoire had dreams of becoming a very famous singer/musician in America. She taught her love of music to Taylor who then perused those dreams in her own way and actually made it big. I can 100% relate to the sentiment. My grandmother died when I was 10 so close to when Taylor lost her's at 13. My grandmother loved art and fashion always wanted to become a milliner (hat designer). She never was able to because back then as soon as she got married she was made to quit her job and be a stay at home mom. For most of my life people have told me how similar to her I was, I've always loved art and fashion too and now I have a career as a costume designer. So just like Taylor I took my grandmother's backlogged dreams that she left me and did what she wasn't able/allowed to do.

Thank you Andy for the reaction to Marjorie. She was Taylor’s grandmother, she was a famous opera singer and Taylor inherited Marjorie’s beauty, grace and love of music. At the end of this most emotional song, we can hear Marjorie’s vocals. It’s all right to cry when we are moved by a beautiful song because we remember our loved ones who aren’t with us anymore. For me, this song reminds me of my father who passed away 5 years ago. I still miss him and always cry with this song.

This song makes me bawl every time I hear it! My grandma passed away when I was around the same age as Taylor when she lost Marjorie. I wish I had asked her questions; she had such an interesting life. We take grandparents for granted and don't think to ask them questions until it's too late.

Great reaction… you should watch the video again, especially at the end (and read the article in the middle too)… it’s all Taylor’s family photos, so moving. And Marjorie’s backing vocals can be heard when she says “singing to me now”… it’s so lovely! I’m kinda obsessed with this song… I lost my Grandma at age 12 (Taylor was 13) and have always felt like she was alive with me pretty much every day since (I’m 46 now, lol). The line “long limbs and frozen swims” refers to the fact that they were both tall… and the “backlogged dreams” refers to a closet full of fancy dresses that she left to Taylor… she’s commented that she wishes she had asked her where she wore each fancy dress (ie: the story behind each one)… just some sweet details that connect them. So glad you enjoyed this one! 🥰

Thank you for this very honest and raw reaction. Yes, this song especially hits in the feels. When you realise too late that you're never going to get to know a grandparent or a parent when you're older and matured. " I should've asked you questions" "Should've kept every grocery store reciept cuz every scrap of you would be taken from me" never fails to tear me up.

This song is about Taylor’s grandmother Marjorie. She was an opera singer. Taylor was very close to her. They use her voice as background vocals when they say “if I didn’t know better, I’d say you’re singing to me now”. It’s beautiful.

Still cry EVERY time I hear this underrated Taylor masterpiece of a tribute song to her maternal grandmother Marjorie, who was a professional opera singer. It’s such a lovely composite of insightful, sentimental, loving lyrics, a lovely melody, and such sweet photographic memories. I was happy too see that though this song was not a single, she chose to include it on her current Eras Tour’s set list! ❤🎉
