I've been working on intervals with hybrid picking, working on a couple of solos and really understanding the RHYTHM of each note played too. I'm a performing musician and I've been playing the guitar 32 years & teaching for about 18. Within the past 2 months I've been putting in about 4 hours a day of practicing just on my lead playing as I really want to improve to the point where I can play the way I know I'm capable of playing & improvising. Thanks for the tips as you're playing is inspiring! Keep rockin' bro! :)

every time I lose hope, somehow there's a video of yours that i see and my inner self just bust with motivation and i get to practice. I literally cried every month of 2022 and finally decided to give up on music as a profession (realised it's not for me). I just learn so much from you ❤️.You are just so much awesome bro keep it up ❤️❤️

hope you can find your path, there are a lot of amazing "hobbist" guitarists, music doesn't have to necessarily turn into a profession. In order to love, do and get better at something there's no need to turn that into money. Everyone has to find a way to survive and have financial stability, after that you can be free to explore and find your place in this world. I'm a law student in Europe and music for me isn't a profitable activity (maybe it will if I find the time to learn a bit of production, who knows...), nonetheless my second language is music. Don't discard your dream, keep it in the box, maybe you will find a way in the future. Wish you the best!

Great video! I’m somewhat relieved that you have fretboard visualization as one of your goals - glad to hear it’s a never ending thing for players like you too! Any future videos on visualization while playing through chord changes would be awesome. Would love to hear your thoughts on that. Thanks as always and happy new year!

Great list dude, and thanks for the solo plug! I’ve been using it myself recently to help shed the harmonic major modes for functional diminished chords. Amazing the difference that scale makes for melody on those things 😅 have a good year bro hope to catch you on the Plini tour 🤟🏻

Transcribing 1 lick at the time is a great idea. Until now, so many times I got discouraged from learning a solo that I like and get the actual benefits from it (not just to be able to play it and that's it), just because it was too many of them and it was taking me too long... I'm gonna try this🤘🏻

all good points. I've found for myself, the best way to improve quickly is to sit in with better players. Pick players (make friends) that play different genres too, nothing has humbled me more than sitting in with a real deal country picker. It feels bad a little, but then gives me tones of drive to improve and learn. Can we get a run down of your QC tone? Your single coil tone is very inspiring! Cheers

My goals are mostly to get a rough demo out of this song I'm writing (only in my head so far with some riffs and lyrics hashed out) in a week or 2 before my week vacation is over. But that involves improving the production side of things anyway.

The last goal hit me hard! I just realised that i unlearned to listen to music. If it´s stuff i allready know or new material. And since then i take my time for songs and records and learned how much it can give to you again :)

Yea. I got a chronic disease around 8/2022 and been on sick leave since. Having trouble with coordination and muscle fatique, which has turned my playing upside-and every other way -around. Can´t really do those 4-8 hr practice days anymore, so I've concentrated on just being consistent and just getting as much as possible, or atleast some reps, each day. Really seems to work for me. With enough reps, things just seem to creep in my playing automatically. Alt/economy picking, outside/inside/arpeggios etc..., just some efficient reps each day, be it just 5 or 30 min a day. It will come. Also somehow I'm getting better with stuff I haven´t even looked into specifically. And as Jack said, listening to and making new music is also very important.

thanks to JG for suggestions! but in my opinion he has to push concepts bout 1) LISTENING MUSIC GENRES. to day all have terabytes of files in pc ,the consequence is that they listen only fragments .not albums. in the past we bought records and cds listening them with attention ! in fact to day no great melodies . no great bands. no great singers( like in the past! )2) learning using ears. learning LISTENING SCALES AND SOLOS and learn them playing. after years a nice good ears sensibility is born. ciao from Italy.

I got back into playing last year after over a decade off. I was a pretty good metal player but had no idea what I was doing and I've since learned all my scales, triads etc but still have no idea what I'm doing. Lol. So I plan to learn how to actually use it all.

Thank you sir! You just lighted up my night time of practicing guitar. I were not be able to see where is the right way to go, so I just took my next step which I can see at that moment. Even I'm not sure is that right or wrong. I've been stuck for around last 2 years and not really improve. I'll rebuild my practice routine this year and hopefully I will make progress ♥ Wish you a good health and unlimited inspiration

Embrace the suck. Thats the brutality of it . One motivating thing I found out from a neuroscientist was that whatever new task you take on, your brain is there waiting to assist you 50% of the way by building neurons.all day, every day. If you can provide the other 50%, your well on your way.

My biggest goal is two hand tapping arpeggios. I watch videos of them then try it and it just doesn't sound right. I have had the action lowered when I had the strings changed so I don't get the extra ringing. I have even written them down so I mess up the arpeggio and the notes that are tapped.

Adding number 8: Use ONE AMP SIM (I'm all in the box) and stop obsessing over tone! I'ma use the nebrini "dumble" and set it and FORGET IT! I've spent way too much time lately messing around with all the sims (I basically have owned/tried them all :( ) and concentrate on playing. It's a serious time waster for many of us. Let me spend the rest of this month and all of February to get my chops better, then we can do that later! LOL!
