What I love about Mark Holcomb is how he is showing that it is damn difficult to be a really good rhythm guitarist. Shredding is one thing but moslty during a concert you have to play some really tight riffs.

rsrichyify I'll be honest if you show this tone to someone who can't really imagine a tone in a mix, they'd probably think it's not that great. The clarity is a good, and still very saturated. If this isn't the patch they used on the album, Its DAMN near close

Idk if anyone will see this, but whatever. I have a doubt about this tuning: I know it’s AGCFAD, so it’s basically D standard (or drop C, it doesnt really matter) with the 6th string dropped down to A. Now, this is also basically 7 string A standard tuning, skipping the low D string. So.. what would be the “right” short way of calling this tuning? Drop A or A standard? I know this isnt truly any of those two, but im just saying...
@themetalhelper31246 жыл бұрын
I'm super late to answer, but we call it drop A. I guess it's called that because the low string is tuned lower than you'd expect for a 6-string.
@joshuasalgado46946 жыл бұрын
I would say it’s a variation of drop a tuning. The safety fire has songs tuned in E standard with the low E string being dropped down to A.
@louis_cgf92065 жыл бұрын
i would call it drop A variant
@DJENTISNTNOTAGENRE4 жыл бұрын
So, from what I've gathered watching a ton of videos about this, apparently it's still considered Drop A even though you can't play power chords with one finger in this set up. Something about how drop tunings really just consist of dropping the tuning of the lowest string. Although, I would tend to agree that it makes more sense to call it a Drop A variation. When you say Drop A to almost anyone, they immediately think of AEADGBE or AEADF#B depending on how many strings the guitar has.

Most of your "drop" tunings are simply dropped d down a number of half steps, but this is a different tuning. It's the same as "Drop B" down a whole step. Drop B is used by Tool in "Parabola" and "Prison Sex."

@Indiegaze7 жыл бұрын
PRS is known for having pretty great set up out of the box, even the SE models. But sounds like you were a bit unlucky. If the guitar had to be shipped overseas, then its fairly common that the guitar reacts to the unusual climates and temperature changes during shipping, and needs a bit of extra set up.
@LuisAlamofervolta7 жыл бұрын
I kinda had the same experience.. and you are right about the pickups being up there closer to the strings.. I guess it was meant to be close? who knows.
@Indiegaze7 жыл бұрын
The pickups are probably set at a very specific height for all the guitars.... Its probably the neck and how it reacts to temperatures that is the problem. If you get a lot of string buzz, you'll know that's the problem...adjust the neck.

Shouldnt the tuning be AADGBE for there to be an octave relationship between the sixth and fifth strings? Mark here says that the first five strings are a step down whilst the sixth string is in A (AGCFAD) and in that tuning there is not an octave between the sixth and fifth strings
@TylerStewardTV6 жыл бұрын
Kraken546 he's referring to the powerchord shape on guitar. I believe he says that in the video. It's not an octave tuning but you can easily play an octave by doing a traditional power chord shape

@Senira3228 жыл бұрын
yeah but this guitar specifically has a 25.5 scale length right? that's pretty much fender strat type scale length. cant imagine downtuning it that low without getting the strings all wobbly. unless they're extremely heavy strings maybe
@jaimiet47758 жыл бұрын

@SpeedisH948 жыл бұрын
I own ibanez RGD, and I found it goes out of pitch when I set it to E standard. I thought different tunings need adjusted fret spacings for it's frequency rates.
@daniolus8 жыл бұрын
You can adjust the length of the string at the bridge to make sure the guitar is in tune along the fretboard as much as possible :)
@SpeedisH948 жыл бұрын
Sure i know about saddles. I just had issues when I tune differently harmony goes wrong somehow, just like you can make your guitar sounds more dippressive by moving capo around. I thought that was sort of inevitable feature of frets. Maybe it's time to get true temperment...??

Mockingbird100 I play only in drop A or B standard tuning. I like loose strings on the bottom to get that djent song but it really depends on the guitar and your playing. I play with 24 fret guitars ( Jackson Rhoads USA ) and I use 12-52 daddario for b standard and 12-56 for drop A. Over 60 is not necessary if you ask me but you have to try and see what feels good for you
