His last name is pronounced heg-day. As others have told you he started young with a TV singing competition called Sa Re Ga Ma Pa (the Kannada edition, I believe). He went on to become a playback singer in the Kannada film industry and by now has sung for the Tamil and Telugu film industries. And I have seen him act in at least one Telugu anthology film. He also composes and arranges his independent music and is now branching out into Hindi (the language of this song). I am from Mumbai, so I was only recently introduced to his work, but here are a few of his songs from Kannada films I like: 1) Usire from Sapta Sagaradaache Ello - Side B 2) The title track of the film Ondu Motteya Kathe 3) Nigooda Nigooda from Kavaludari You should also check out the song Baadal (Hindi) which he has composed and is now part of a film sound track. He also has a Coke Studio Bharat collab with the composer of SSE-Side B mentioned above. This is a Kannada song called Geejaga Hakki (Weaver Bird). The video has subtitles, so you can understand the lyrics.

Sanjit Hegde originally is feom South India and from state of Karnataka, but the song is in Hindi which is Northern language. Also he actually is one of the hot selling play back singers, he actually rose to fame in American Idol like reality singing show and at very young age got his shot at play back singer, and very recently he has been making his own music.
