This video isn't solely about Gullveig-Heiðr. Please, pay close attention to the notes throughout the video, because the very study on Gullveig/Heiðr gives the opportunity to question the construction of Norse mythology itself and the interpretations and associations made since the 19th century. In this video I propose a new-challenge: to revise the entirety of the Norse myths. Hope you enjoy it. Have a great day!

@ArithHärger
@ArithHärger 4 жыл бұрын
I do the same thing but with books. Sometimes while on research there are concepts that I'm not grasping or ideas that are not making much sense because I may be tired or simply failing to understand. When I go to sleep all these ideas start to pop out and I get a better picture of what I have interiorised. Sometimes this causes many hallucinations but the pieces start to get together. Our subconscious is a very mysterious network :) Back when I was studying egyptian hieroglyphs I was the top of my class (actually one of the very few things I'm proud of) and in great part was because I was struggling so much with something I knew nothing about, all new information and it was overwhelming. That was simply making me lose my mind lol, so while sleeping I would have vivid hallucinations and things started to get together and I started to understand. My mind was overwhelmed and just needed some rest and let the subconscious take over, and there it was, I was no longer struggling with the egyptian hieroglyphs and by the end of the term I was the top of my class on that. Sadly, this didn't happen with other classes lol :p

One of my favorites videos you have done. For the longest time I felt that it was only my personal relationship and gnosis work with Heidr that saw Gullveig Heidr this way. I have been hated by many in our community because of the way I have spoken out about the wrongly misunderstanding of Gullveig and how I honor her.. Thank you for confirming my own understanding of The Völva Heidr!! As you can see from my name, she is truly my patron Goddess. Thank you for making this video.

Only in a human mind do we separate and individualize ideas. Each idea that you have discussed is connected on all levels of our lives and spirit. What that we learn at this moment affects the past as much and our past has ultered the future. It is within any person to see what you have put together but so much more. This world and the process is beyond amazing. Thank you creative flow for this adventure. Thank you very much!

I started watching this last night and had to go do something and didn't get back to it until today. Great job and amazing research Arith! I found it interesting that several vloggers have recently posted on this topic, but yours was the most thoroughly researched and most clearly presented. In the interim, between last night and today, I fell asleep (unlike you I sleep for about 7 out of every 24 hours!) and while sleeping a voice told me that Gullveig / Hiedr was not a person but a concept. That the "golden drink" was the mead of wisdom, and that Hiedr was the personification of magic itself. Today I watched the last hour and a half of this video and found that you and the voice are largely in agreement. It made me think of someone reading about Greek philosophy and wondering who that woman Sophia is and how she is so highly esteemed...without understanding the meaning of the word itself! The misunderstanding of mythology is caused by scholars who are so far removed from the mindset of the ancient bards, who sung the mythological epics in poetry, that they can not understand the nature of what is being told in the epics and how there was a secret language built into the poems which described magical methods and were often "hidden in plain sight" the true depths of the information available only to the initiates. Great work here! You should sleep better knowing it is done!

All the discrepancy was over the Nectar of Immortality; Gullveig emerged among the Vanier with the Insurgence of the Old Ones into the 9 worlds; she was their agent in form and really was a dark sorceress of the highest fucking caliber who inverted the practice of Seidr which was already known among the Vanier with Freya in context before all of this happened; everything was poisoned in context which is WHY she was sanctioned to be destroyed by the Asier; it was with the upraise of the Vanier after being influenced by Gullveig who heard about what happened that was the cause for the First War; the Vanier wanted the Nectar all to themselves because of this Influence; and the Asier were not having it; fact is the true form of Gullveig is Hyrrokkin; and past all the glitz; Gullveig; yes meaning: The LUST for Gold=The Nectar of Immortality; which is to do with the Gold of Consciousness to which the Old Ones FEED off of; OUR TRUE ESSENCE; this is nothing new; they are Inter-dimensional thought form Entities that have kept Humanity let along the Ancestors [the gods] in a place of Carbonated Consciousness and WAR locked within the Inverted Saturn Energies manipulating the Feminine Force which is Gateway to Midvalier; Ironically; one of the Moons of Saturn is Hyrrokkin; I have been able to crack codes with the Mythos and make connections to many other things.., this is what we must ALL RISE ABOVE here in Midgard.., also on a side note Kvasir was killed by the dwarves Fjalar and Galar; not Oden; just sharing some things to CONSIDER in hindsight; I could go into much more detail but will leave it at that.., *****RESPECT TO YOU ARITH*****

Wow!!! After listening to what appeared at the onset to be a long discourse/vid....it ended all too soon and too quickly, and left me wanting more! I don't know how or why, (oh yeah, it was the runes), I stumbled onto your site, but it has been a truly enriching experience for me. In some cases it has greatly expanded my thinking and in other instances it has served as an existential solace for my soul, as it breaths a sigh of relief or comfort in being home...(it's an odd feeling to realize that comfort, not knowing there was a degree of angst before...). Thank you Arith!! I don't normally use this lingo....but that was phat...chuncky, even! (....in the near future when I am able, I will pay you properly as a patron, as I have thoroughly benefitted from the education you have so creatively and humorously provided......my only complaint is the video with the 3 picts of chickens in the background...they were so distracting ...I found myself not listening!!! I really wanted to see the chicken in the middle....I am quite certain she was the prettiest) Cheers!

This whole week, I was preoccupied with thoughts regarding the shamanic rituals, where the shaman is reborn through suffering, pain, and their body is reconstructed anew. I think that a part of the ritual most likely included consuming a common yet deadly mushroom that manifests all of the described agonies. Specifically, the death cap mushroom, whereby 50% of who consume it end up dead, and those whole live retell the tale of rebirth and suffering.

Remembering “golden tongue” meaning inspired poetry that influenced the consciousness of others. Like spell, I guess. Mythology of Kali talks about burning or “blackening” of followers who have gone astray to strengthen them & give them wisdom. Like re-initiation. Like “testing” or “proofing”.

I really loved this video! I think it was an excellent explanation of the differences between different types of magick preformed by Old Norse women (as well as those outside of their society). With that being said, I would pose the question to you regarding the alternate interpretation of the original meaning of virgin being strictly "unwed" as opposed to refraining from sexual relations with men. Could that be a possible interpretation of the Prophetess being virgins? I know the idea of the maiden Goddess' and mother Goddess' don't necessarily always revolve around the literal concepts of bearing children or marriage.

Find yourself a nice set of trees or hedge row for privacy, do a full body work out with plenty of push ups and pull ups till full exhaustion sets in for nap time or to where you can pass out. Circle the tree with stones, or do an ornate trench around the trees you will be doing your physical exercises in and around, once your ritual circle is made, work a sweat up till you pass out for a good nap, enjoy your walk through Dream Time. And when you are hanging upside down doing core crunches do not be too surprise if animals start talking to you or people showing up in branches that should not be able to support that person's weight.

And also ended up injuring my foot trying to escape it, and couldn't walk for 6 months after that. It sucked pretty bad. Also, I'm not bound by a man, and dont have kids or want any... uh oh, guess that means I'm evil lol I know these videos aren't about me, I'm just letting you know a bit about me in relation to the actual subject. Also, non of my comments are meant to be passive aggressive. Like the one about me annoying people with all my posts about why it's important to be vegan. That's a good majority of what I post, and I've actually lost friends because of it, and my family has treated me differently ever since I became the "preachy" or "militant" vegan... it's ok. I never fit in with them anyway Of course you know my real name isn't Rose Petal, it's just the name of my channel, however I had decided some time last year that I would prefer to go by Rose. For example, the idea that Loki and Gulveig emerged as a couple from Ymir's body and that they planned Ragnarok, including assuming that Gerdr, Freyr's fiancée, was actually Guilveig's daughter, is pure fabrication.

It jives with what Odin is seeking, enlightenment, knowledge or broader perspective.....hmmm? (if not that, I'd like to suggest urine. @@Son-of-Tyr So who told you I don't believe in anything? Just because I don't share yours specifically? Where did I mock your believe I don't even know what you believe in? Smh. Well I tell you why I watch this channel, because I can! Furthermore you assume too much! And you talk about mocking believes and if I recall correctly the implemented Chaos gnosticism is a belief system, too. For them it's not an apocryphal book! So much so for you playing a victim.

@@bibliothecariousoccultorum Victim? I think you've got that backwards. I don't consider people like you mocking my beliefs as a threat. And you saying my beliefs, which you should reasonably be able to discern, are fictional is a form of mockery. You going through comments and starting an argument over my opinion, in addition to watching a video about something you either have little comprehension of, or that you think is "fictional" tells me a lot about you. Tells me I'm not going to bang my head against a wall arguing with a purple haired keyboard warrior. Have a nice day.

Overall a very well researched and inspiring video. However, I disagree about the virgin idea. I think it's more likely that she brought joy to the women who would not submit to being bound as a bride especially under the god being established at the time.

In Norwegian the word 'vei' means road (although the Norrøn language is very different from Norwegian, some words have been carried over and there's a lot of debate what veig really means). So Gullveig could take on the meaning: the Golden road (based on the Norwegian language). A digression: in greek we'll find the expression 'the golden middle way'. And the Earth "swallows" the Sun for three days during the winter solstice (below the belt of Jørmungandr (kundalini): the snake, which in many cultures is the Sun). This is also described during the Voluspå, that the Sun disappears for three days before an allegorically Micro cosmic Ragnarok (Samadhi), after where the Earth is on fire (Gullveigs burning). It is also interesting that Odin was pierced by a spear when he hanged from the Yggdrasil (after a previous Ragnarok: Ego death). Personal interpretation ;=)

I absolutely agree with the idea that the story of Gullveigr is an earlier version of the coming of Oddroerir to the Æsir. The Goddess IS the Vessel and thereby IS the essence of life, poetically described as 'the Mead of Poetry'. The hoisting on spears and triple burnings and rebirths do resemble an initiation by fire for Freyja. It also mimics the rebirth of the dead on the pyre in beings who transform in spirits who can travel to the other world, returning to the realms of Freyja in her role as Lady of the dead. Sidenote on Heiðr being 'a joy for wicked (young) women' The Oldnorse word that was used is 'Illrar'. It could be translated with 'wicked', 'evil', but also with *sick* and even *unhappy*! (Compare the English word 'ill' that derived from it). Wouldn't that make more sense for sick, unhappy and even dying people turning to their Lady for help (or Völva for that matter)? 'Wicked' seems to be just another Christian, misogynist choice of interpretation. P.S. 'Illrar bruðar' is not the only version of Völuspá, another reads the line 'Illrar þióðar'; 'unhappy, despairing folk/people'. Men also followed Freyja, not just 'bruðar'= brides='young women'. Völuspá explicitly mentions that *half of the slain go to Freyja ánd half of the slain go to Óðinn*. Even warriors sometimes preferred Séssrumnir over Válhöll it seems.

Just raveling a thread here, but during the middle ages all over the world, alchemy was a very popular pursuit, even among such Christians as Albertus Magnus, John Dee, etc. I wonder if the gold referred to is not physical gold, but more a spiritual gold such as the Mead of Poetry or the Philosopher's Stone. Thus it is interpreted as a wise woman being "greedy" for knowledge/enlightenment, which had very negative consequences at the time.

A group of magicians or a few seem to revolve around one and out them up on pedistals. Then they get sacrificed, likely to create anomalous objects or, change a regular (Lead) person into a God/Demigod by rituals not we known. They usually fail, or resurect from the dead. Joan of Arc was known as a Maiden.

The book The Kybalion written by the three initiates talks about the "gold" of alchemy being a spiritual concept as opposed to literal. The deception of it being "literal gold" was to hide it's occult associations from the christian reign of the days.

VERY excited to see this one! Am I right in thinking that eating her resilient heart was not altogether, but in part, the catalyst for Loki's malevolence?

This was an awesome video! I feel like I learned a lot and came away with lots of questions to explore and wonder about, too. Loved the close looks at the differences between how post-christianization categorizes cultural elements differently than pre-christian culture would have. I think work like this is important! Great video

I like your question so much that I think I'm going to make a video out of it. I tried to answer you in here but my answer was so big that I couldn't actually send you a reply. I had to break my answer into 4 comments and I just can't spam like that lol. So in the near future I'll make a video answering your question, is that alright? Stay tuned :D
