At the beginning of the series Gumball and Darwin were both naive and looked at everything with positivity. In the later seasons Darwin was still naive and positive but Gumball became more cynical, jealous of others and somewhat of an asshole. A likable asshole in my opinion but an asshole nonetheless. That being said he still has his moments of showing he’s not a complete jerk like how he saves Rob, or still sometimes tries to help others like Anias when she’s bullied by Billy or helping Darwin get his girlfriend a Carrie.

@@corentinravel5299 Dude Gumball still likes Peney and Darwin. There's recent episodes like The Romantic and The Silence that show that Gumball still loves and cares for them, and I know hes rude to them sometimes and all that. But that's just because he's a kid. Like Gumball usually does bad things to Darwin because there just brothers. That's what brothers do. They fight and do mean things but still care for one another. My point is that while Gumball is flawed he still cares about Darwin and Penny.

@danielshaffer-green56843 ай бұрын
Gumball isn't all bad. He's done a lot of really noble things, such as caring a lot about Mr. Robinson (even though Mr. Robinson doesn't feel the same way about him), comforting Penny when she first comes out of her shell, standing up for Anais when she's being bullied, trying to convince Darwin to leave Jamie when he sees how abusive their relationship is, restoring Alan's faith in the world despite his hatred of Alan, helping Ms. Simian keep her job despite them being enemies, and, most of all, risking his life to save Rob, his arch-nemesis. The way I see it, the episode "The Test" wasn't trying to say that Gumball is beyond redemption, it was just saying that being snarky is just how he naturally communicates. It was similar to "The Job" in that both episodes showed that characters' negative traits (Gumball's rudeness and Richard's laziness) are necessary for maintaining order, parodying the concept of the status quo.

Despite being a blue cartoon cat, he's one of the most realistic portrayals of a 12 year old I've ever seen: someone whose egotistical, mischievous, a bit to self centered but also someone who can get past these negative traits and truly show his love for others. Here's my take: Gumball Watterson is a12 year old kid who makes poor choices, and many mistakes throughout the show, but at the end of the day is still a good person. Sure he's mischievous, cocky, and sometimes a bit too egotistical for his own good, but that's what a lot of kids are at that age. On the other hand he's also very caring, he loves people so much, and in the end he tries to do what he thinks is best. He's a character that I can laugh with, be mad with, cry with, and so on. Episodes like the Shell, Origins 1 & 2, The Rerun, and so on show that Gumball is a good kid. He's a deeply flawed character who at the end of the day is still lovable. That's what makes him so special to me. I know everyone think's Darwin is cute and adorable and all and I do too, but I stand by the belief that if Gumball wasn't written as well as he was, the show wouldn't have lasted long. To me, Gumball has a lot more in common with Big Nate than Greg Hefley, because just like Big Nate, he shows that he can be mature when the time comes and is still a very likable dude.
