I don't know if this was all done the same way as the original Gumby tv series was. But it sure looks a lot more professional and polished compared to the original series. THIS is what I remember seeing growing up. It also explains why I didn't see Prickle and Goo in the original series.

Prickle and Goo came along in the 1960s series but in the 50s series Pokey was Gumby's only onscreen friend. They did show the 1950s and 60s episodes along with the new 1980s episodes,all redubbed and rescored using the same MIDI music as you hear in the 1988-89 episodes. But yes the character designs,especially Gumby's,in the '88 series were certainly well polished and whilst Gumby has always been a loveable character even in the older series he's more grown up and responsible in the 80s series yet still every bit as fun and lighthearted and friendly as always. Which was why the 80s series was always my favorite.

I don't remember where I read this, but some critic wrote that Gumby can't really be expanded upon because "it's so distinctly itself." He's right. Gumby is Gumby. There's nothing else like it. It's so bizarre.
