The episode in which Gumby first meets Pokey. While playing in toyland Gumby finds Pokey with his hoof caught in a railroad track. Rushing to the rescue, Gumby manages to free Pokey a moment before the train goes by. The Blockheads want the 100 ice cream cone reward for finding Pokey so they try to get rid of Gumby. Their scheme of freezing Gumby enables them to lasso Pokey, but Gumby unfreezes in time to give hot pursuit and rescue the Pony.

Gumby rules!!! I grew up with this,had to sit through Romper Room just for the Gumby cartoon. can hardly wait for my grandson to be old enough to watch. it really was the, 'good old days' .....lucky kid to be born in the mid 60's in San Francisco...the BEST cartoons,bands,and choices of substances

That's funny Roper Room was mentioned...my 5 year old daughter was on Roper Room, she even got a certificate showing the dates she was the show in the mid 1970's....I myself, used to wait for the Gumby cartoons to air, just loved him, and Pokey. ..lol...

I used to watch this in the 1980's. I think it was on WGN, I'll have to ask my sister. I don't know when I realized it was created back in the 1950's, though. I'll have to ask my parents if they ever watched Gumby when they were kids.

Oh my gosh this was my favorite show when I was a little girl. Had the Gumby doll and the Pony doll. I would take it to school with me. It was very comforting because every time I went to school I cried. One day there was this little boy on the bus when I was crying I remember he gave me banana bubble gum. It was very comforting. Funny the things you remember. I was so small the little boy thought I was a 🍼 baby 😁 Never met a little boy who was so excited to go to school. He wiped my nose. Funny how strangers can comfort you.

That explains it! I remember seeing this episode on VHS as a kid, but I never saw the middle part where they go to the saloon and Pokey gets captured by the Blockheads. This makes much more sense now. 😅

So inventive, so amazing...you don't have to have lived in "simpler times" to appreciate the surreal antics here. What kid didn't want to be able to physically wander around in the world that he or she is reading about in a book, even if it is a co mic book? I was so obsessed with animation, and this is a perfect example of the kind of animation worth wandering around in. If you like this series and enjoy having such collectables on physical media, the entire classic series is available on three terrific volumes, and each set comes with a little figure of the essential characters in the GUMBY TV series--Gumby, himself, Pokey (as seen in this episode) and even the plotting Blockheads!!

I own two original copies of gumby episodes. One of them is Season 1 Train Trouble, and the other is Sad King Ott's daughter from season 2. Both films play well, but the color is a bit faded. These are on 16mm movie film
