Not the Gumby we all know, but still the Gumby we all love. Thanks for posting.

Gumbo and Mrs. Gumba look so weird in this! I remember the bit with the Marx train set was reused in the 1956 short "Gumby Business," except Gumby doesn't get caught on the caboose.

The 1950s boxset has this, but only a sample, and muted. But the 1960s volume 1 set has the full audio and video of the pilot.

I loved this show as a kid! I still do! Thanks for this rare gem! I never heard this particular intro song either! I was born in '77, so I knew of the earlier intro, and the 1980s intro (when the Prickle and Gue characters were added). This made my day!

Notice how Gumby's arms change length, from a centimeter long to another centimeter more long.

Now I know why this was completed in a month in 1955, just so it could be released on January 29.

No wait. I just realized that this pilot was completed and screened to Sam Engel on September 2nd, 1955.

Love seeing this. I've been a big fan of the earliest episodes and have never seen this pilot. The surreal visual stuff in early ones, i.e. Gumby going into a sax and coming out of the holes, falling into a mirror as if it's water, etc are a big part of what make them so appealing.

I'd be surprised if this ever aired, it's very amateurish. It doesn't seem much more than a test to see how a claymation character series might be produced
@HobbyOrganist3 жыл бұрын
Gumby etc look very crude compared to the much more refined shapes of later productions!
@sirchi87313 жыл бұрын
@@HobbyOrganist this version is better. Guys like jim Henson and art Clokey had access to future technology so they played around with it. But I like the old gumby better

Does anyone know the lyrics to what Gumby sang from 1:59 to 3:09?

(be warned this is probably really inaccurate, it’s hard to hear lol) If you would like to know my name It is Gumby, little Gumby I’m a little piece of clay Just a little piece of animated clay But at the very least a little piece of clay I’m hypnotic, I’m (?), but they say that I’m supercilious For I change my shape 100 times a day At the very least 100 times a day I’m little Gumby, your little Gumby I’m your heroic little friend to play with clay I will amuse you, I will enthuse you By the frolicking way (?) hours away Sometimes I will be flatter Like a pancake on a platter For they tear me to a tater But it really doesn’t matter For it’s all in play and it’s just my way And the same thing happens everyday
