Nice video brother! Alot of folks disagree with your aproach but i think (and I'm no historian) in the 1800s people had various styles of fast draw as we today with modern firearms in tactical deployment. However by leaning back on the draw would it throw you off balance? Nice gun by the way and very cool attire!

My dad and I compete in fast draw.. it is a fun sport.. but there is a difference between fast draw and real combat and target shooting.. clearing your holster like this and getting off the fastest shot looks great but, in the real world it is all about hitting your target. If you're going to discuss the draw of "old west gunfighters", shouldn't you use a soft leather holster rig, like they would have had, and not a metal lined Buscadero (modified Spaghetti Western cut down) rig invented by 1920s Hollywood film-makers? I am quite certain the draw style you show would not have worked with an historically accurate old west holster of the 1880s or 90s.

Now my fast draw experience comes only from old Westerns but I don't remember any gun fight where either of the participants had their hand on the gun before the draw. Also, there is a very small gap between the cylinder and the barrel therefore when a revolver is fired there is a flash that will come out of both sides of the cylinder and burn the hell out of your hand or anything that is in the way, like his side. He may well be the fastest draw in the World, but this isn't Star Trek, and we are not shooting lasers. So Howard is the best at being a pretend fast draw. There is something that is just as important or maybe even more important and that is shooting from that position can he actually hit anything???

I wonder why shooting from the hip doesn't injure or burn the whole side. When a round is fired with a revolver, hot high velocity gases cut through the barrel/cylinder gap.... If you hold a piece of cardboard next to the cylinder, the cardboard will get shredded... that's why fingers shouldn't be near it when firing either. Does your clothing or leather belt protect you from the exhaust? Or does the revolver have such a small gap that hardly any gases escape?

I have a hard time believing this to be an accurate fast draw of the 1800s just because they were using real bullets not rice ammo. Nothing against this guy as a fast draw he is very fast, but the recoil is pretty good when it comes to an actual bullet and the way his hand is held on the gun doesn't look like it's sturdy enough to keep the gun in his hand if a real bullet were to come out of it. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Accurate fast draw?
@johnmccarron7066
@johnmccarron7066 6 жыл бұрын
This is more of a fast draw for cowboy shooting (the event), and less an 'accurate' fast draw. It is a blindingly fast way to shoot, but by design after the fact (the holster he uses, for instance, is not historically accurate, but certainly allows a faster draw with a revolver). A lot of tactical fast draw techniques with modern holsters encourage pushing the barrel against the holster, so it snaps up and forward when clearing. This positions the weapon forward and in a way to allow the arm to absorb recoil. That's primarily for hip shooting, however, and wouldn't be accurate over more than half a yard (and that's pushing it). As for as historically accurate, I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of the technique was similar to modern tactical fast draws (push the weapon forward).

Just saying, its movies. In real life doing this man vs man it would be stupid. I mean to be able to win you need to be ALOT faster then the other guy or be lucky that he misses you. And Dueling came from the movies it never happened in the real west.
@straycat1674
@straycat1674 10 жыл бұрын
It is more than just speed. In real gun fights it is nerves of steel and lack of fear. You have to be calm and clear in the head and use every ounce of training. Sometimes the fastest does not win but the calmest and clearest of mind. You can be fast all you want, but if you are not hitting the target then you are gonna lose.
@SkezZHD
@SkezZHD 10 жыл бұрын
straycat1674 I know that. But what my point is that you still need to be ALOT faster then the other one because even if you draw in like 0.30 sec and he draws 0.40 he can still hit you. Thats my point.
