I’m seriously drooling of the idea of a new, next-Gen FPS Gundam game (one that’s more “realistic” as opposed to arcadey like the new Evolution game). I could just imagine choosing between a lot of different mobile suits and Gundams and experiencing their various cockpits, weapons, unique movements and capabilities, etc, while having different unique levels (both land and space combat). For whatever reason Japanese companies don’t make many FPS games though, I don’t get it…

Yeah, a PROPER remake. I'm glaring at you, Side Stories on PS3, lol. But seriously, It is so bizarre to me that there was never any sort of true follow up or successor in the same vein as this one. I would love a true remake for this game or to see where they went after this. There are just so many amazing stories in the One Year War and potential new stories they could make from various perspectives of the Federation and Zeon even. I still wish we could see an FPS title that shows us what Operation British was like, the various fronts around the world and key battles, perspectives from infantry to MS unit's, maybe give some special appearances of some units as well. Unfortunately the last game we got (by that I mean Japan only on a 360, the country where that is the worst selling system) anywhere near this was Operation Troy. And while they are making a NEW Fps game called Gundam Evolution, its... literally just an Overwatch clone more or less intended to be their big attempt at getting into esports.

@@fuelcapgaming5753There *sort of* is, in the form of an arcade game called Mobile Suit Gundam: Senjou no Kizuna. It got multiple different versions in the arcades, and even a sequel fairly recently, but the only console entry is a PSP port of the first game.

I love the GM Cannon and Guncannon MP, really enjoyed this game. The controls always felt limited by the Dreamcast, who knows how much improvement we could get if implemented on PC in this style.

Gundam MS Sensen 0079 on the Wii was the closest spiritually to Rise from the Ashes. It was a full-on FPS with an original story that let you play as a squad of Federation or Zeon characters, and even had an Ace Pilot mode. Sadly, it was Japan only. I’m still hunting it after all these years…

The closest thing to what's described at the end where you play as grunts and fight along side heroes of the war would be UC to Climax on the PS2. besides the reliving the moments of major UC stories and moments, you can create your own character in a side campaign like mode. You can choose a side during the one year war and when it gets to Zeta you can change faction. I think Feddie can go AEUG or Titan while Zeon have to AEUG. I think you can change to Neo Zeon in Double Zeta and CCA. The gameplay is basic. Ground combat feels better for the game while space combat you don't get to move vertically too much. Fights can be hard too as grunts when you have to fight major characters, but you do have a team with you that follows you in your career no matter which faction you switch to through out the era. You will have to make a new team when it gets to late UC in F91 as your original characters would be too old by then.

I really wish so as well. They only attempted FPS games a couple more times after this game here. Operation Troy which was basically a Gundam meets Battlefield styled game back on the Xbox 360. I played its single player campaign and it was actually pretty fun. But it flopped because it was on the Xbox 360. In Japan only. Where the Xbox sells the worst out of anywhere in the whole world. Then there was some FPS game on the Wii called Gundam MS Sensen 0079. I have it but haven't tried it yet cause I gotta mod the wii to break the region lock on it. I don't know a whole lot about it, it looks kinda arcade-y honestly. And then there was an actual gundam FPS game for arcades much more recently called Gundam Kizuna which was a cool looking FPS game. And lastly, there's the recently announced Gundam Evolution which is literally a Gundam themed Overwatch game. Who knows when or if we will see another intense FPS mech game though with this sort of feel from Gundam ever again. Playing Mech Warrior 5 has been giving me the itch I need for that sort of thing to some degree but still. It'd be nice if they made some sort of try again.

Shame this never came out in Europe, though I guess it's lucky it landed even in the US. It reminds me a lot of the Blue Destiny games on the Saturn, which I absolutely love. Now I have a region free DC I probably should get this game... Whilst it may not be super accessible, I'm still hoping for a VR Gundam FPS.

Still have my DC, still have this game, I bring it out at least once a year and play it again. And like you guys, I wonder why there's never been another one! It had action, it had atmosphere, it had excitement...boy did I sweat when the doors of that Gallop opened up. 22 years is way too long to wait, and Bandai has a massive development staff. If they'd do a new one (or a remake of this one) for the PS5, I'd buy a PS5 just to play it. Thanks for a very good presentation, as well as showing proper respect for the product. Most reviewers don't do that.

I'm definitely itching for a new one and my imagination runs wild over the thoughts of it. The last time anything close to this game that exists is the exclusive to Japan only Xbox 360 game Gundam Operation Troy which is just Gundam meets Battlefield basically. There's also a battle pod simulator at arcades in Japan where you do first person, PVP combat from the cockpits of mobile suits. And lastly, there is Gundam Evolution but its more of a hero Overwatch shooter. Rise from the Ashes did specifically have its campaign remade in Gundam Side Stories, a Japan exclusive third person shooter game, and also in SD Gundam G Generation Genesis, a tactical game much like Advance Wars or Fire Emblem.

I'm not very knowledgeable at all on the topic but found a copy of this game to give as a gift for a huge fan, and looking for a console to go with it- not sure if it's necessary to upgrade to VGA or HDMI or if it will play just fine with original stuff. Yeah, I saw the trailers and some gameplay footage for that recently and even though it's essentially an overwatch game, even down to some of the characters playstyles and abilities, I'm incredibly excited by it. I hope they release it worldwide soon!

I know we have Gundam Evolution coming, but it's a hero shooter like Overwatch, unfortunately. I'll still definitely play it though. It's a shame we never got Gundam Operation Troy because that would have been great for everyone to play and get a fix on that FPS itch for Gundam.

I still see it from time to time at retro game shops around me for like $30-$40 or so. It does seem to be on eBay from $45-$75, so I guess the prices aren't too bad there if you don't mind shelling out for that kind of pricing?

To answer your question the only other fps mecha game I can think of is the titanfall series which respawn/EA doesnt realize its greatness. I thought the game will be a clunky mess but seeing gundam fans praise it to no end. As a gundam fan and I fan of the one year war era of gundam I allways loved the gritty realism of that era.

Oh that beginning clip with the 3d character entering their suit? That was actually a clip from Gundam Battle Operation 2. Every time you enter battle it shows your avatar enter their mobile suit like that. I just re customized my avatar to look closer to me and have the cosplay jacket that I own, then recorded when I entered a battle where I used the suit from this game and just edited it together. If you mean the live action bit though with me, I just had the background ready on a greenscreen, dug out my Steel Battalion controller and set everything up to mimic the inside of a mobile suit.

Hey! just found out of another fps gundam game, kinda similar to this one, its mobile suit gundam senjou no kizuna portable, for psp, its a portable port of a japan-only arcade game, i've been playing it for a little while, and its pretty fun!, and the online multiplayer makes it even better, no story tho, sadly. The cameras for mobile suits are on their head, so why is the cockpit view showing the gun? That would only be applicable if the cockpit had cameras also. I admit I loved this game. But there are some extremely illogical elements to the cameras.

Because FPS games have trained us to expect to see our gun there. It's just a staple of what we as gamers expect in our field of view. If you look at Battlefield for instance, you practically have whatever you're holding shoved into your face it's so obvious on screen. Just the way games are.
