So intersting to see a 'work in progress' training video. I'm currently trying to introduce the stop whistle on my 15mth old working cocker. He's insanely hunt driven so need all the help I can get!! Really enjoyed watching this video and the 2nd part too. Thank you.

Good to hear your dog has plenty of hunting drive, something that's becoming rarer, glad you found the video useful.

Just wondering how you would have had her out working if she doesn't know a stop whistle, I would of thought that would have been the first thing to teach??? Maybe I'm wrong

Everyone has their own training methods,I work my dogs and thereby find out it's relative strengths and weaknesses, and then tailor the training on that basis.

How has she come along? The key too training any dog is knowing your dog. Most people expect too much too soon? You wouldn’t give your 3 year old the keys too your car! Great video! A refreshing change 😊

George, thanks for the video. I appreciate your Spaniel work. You don't see many videos of trainers working Spaniels like this. Only videos of completed polished Spaniels. Here in the US the majority of videos seem to be of work with Pointers and Retrievers using e-collars. I am running a young Boykin Spaniel and desire to continue training her with traditional methods even though results take some time. I practice recall to the whistle the same as you although at times I use a long check cord to have a means to enforce the command. I was wondering if you could comment on your philosophy of training which seems to be with traditional methods verses utilizing the e-collar. Thanks and keep up the good work.

I see my methods as just common sense, nothing too complicated,I tend to spend time on where the dog is weak and leave the strengths to him.In my experience most dogs want to please, and when they understand what you want they'll happily comply with your wishes. The e-collar has it's uses, for example to correct a dog that chases sheep or some similar serious offence,I personally wouldn't use it as a general training aid. That I suppose sums up my philosophy, best of luck in the future my friend.
