Earlier today the Steelers signed FA WR/Returner Gunner Olszewski to a 2 year contract worth $4M. Olszewski went undrafted in 2019 before getting picked up by the New England Patriots. In 2020 he made the NFL All Pro team as a return specialist. He will now fill the role that was left by Ray-Ray McCloud in Pittsburgh following McCloud's signing with San Francisco. #Steelers

Tell ya’s one thing Steelers Nation I’m greatly impressed with Kevin Colbert’s overall offseason game plan of addressing the team’s immediate and future needs. While the sporting media is focusing their attention on all of the eye popping blockbuster trades that have transpired so far this offseason, Kevin Colbert has been artfully taking advantage of every option he has in his tool box. 2022 has afforded Kevin the most cap money available to him that he’s had in a lot of years and he is wisely and shrewdly making excellent use of that money. While other team’s GM’s are making wild high stakes moves, Kevin Colbert is quietly and shrewdly maximizing every penny he has available to him. Looking at the free agent signings Kevin has made so far is a thing of beauty. He signed some blue chip talent and got outstanding value by not overpaying. In fact, he signed many of these players for less money than they could have gotten from other teams. Kevin is using this free agency period to build a rock solid foundation that will most certainly benefit the team now and into the future. Looking at the free agent players that he has brought in so far, Kevin has upgraded all three phases of the team, especially the areas that need immediate upgrades, i.e., the OL and ILB positions. He also improved the depth. Once the 2022 NFL draft gets here, Kevin and the rest of the Steelers’ draft war room can maximize their draft capital to add the sizzle to the areas of the team that need it. If the draft goes as well as the free agency period is going this offseason could go down as Kevin’s master work. The NFL draft gurus are already praising the insane blockbuster decisions made by teams like Denver and Cleveland. Some are advocating that more teams should make these crazy types of blockbuster moves if they want to win. I say, that thought process is a recipe for disaster. Look at the deal the Browns signed Watson to. Five years at $225 million dollars and every bit of it is guaranteed. That means Watson will be banking $45 mill per season.

Agree 100% Now this might be a hot take, I really hope the Steelers are in the position to trade up into the top 10-15 and select the NT Jordan Davis from Georgia.. that dude is going to be the most dominant interior player in football for years to come. Otherwise, it would be nice to see them upgrade the OL in the first three rounds. I think there are some real quality players on the interior for both sides of the ball that can be found rounds 1-3.
@TheBlaster54
@TheBlaster54 2 жыл бұрын
@@ethanschmitt8419 I agree with Kevin getting Georgia’s NT, Davis. He would be the ideal replacement for thirty-five year old, Tyson Alualu. Then again Kevin would do well to select any of the Georgia DL players in this draft because they are all that good. Given how exceptionally deep this draft is on both sides of the ball, Kevin can close his eyes and throw a dart at his draft board and not miss on a blue chip prospect. As I said, with the way the offseason has been going so far, AR2, Colbert, and Tomlin are going to be able to enter the draft with the Best Player Available mindset. I haven’t been this exited about how the free agent period unfolded for the Steelers in a very long time. IMO, Kevin will address the OL and WR positions. However, I think he will put more emphasis on the defensive side of the ball. I say that because given the QB situations of their division rivals they are going to have to rely on their defense to keep them competitive as their offense gets used to having a lot of new moving parts, especially having a different QB. I see Kevin using four picks by going DL, CB, safety and ILB. The rest on offense.
@shaunbeck7518

Getting Levi Wallace cheap, away from Buffalo was huge also, as CB is generally a weakness. Don't need to depend on Joe Haden returning again. We still have a lot of cap space available, especially since we can restructure to create more. $20M now, minus the draft. Waiting to here more good news. We can afford 2 or 3 more nice players, and draft the best available. Hope Malik Willis is there at 20. He'd slide in nicely if Mitch is out, and trade Mason maybe.
@TheBlaster54
@TheBlaster54 2 жыл бұрын
@@shaunbeck7518 I’m not in favor of taking any of these unpolished QB’s in this draft. I’m not buying into the media hype about Willis being the best QB in this draft. He did not put up a good showing when he threw at the combine. He might have a strong arm, but he was also inaccurate. The media is hyping up Willis in the same way they hyped up Michael Vick. IMO, if you compare the QB’s in this draft to the 2023 class the 2022 class would be mid to late round picks. As far as I’m concerned, now that Colbert has signed Trubisky, in addition to having Rudolph and Haskins, there is no need to waste a first or second round pick and reach for any of these QB’s. There is no doubt that if they did take Willis he’s going to sit his first year and I don’t like the idea of throwing a first round pick at a raw unpilished QB that will not be contributing this year. He can use that first round pick to get a blue chip defensive or offensive lineman. Filling these needs now will allow the new GM to get their next franchise QB in the 2023 draft.
@shaunbeck7518
@shaunbeck7518 2 жыл бұрын
@@TheBlaster54 I'm not big on it either. It's a low risk/high reward flyer, really. Willis is a mobile QB with a big arm that would be cheap on a rookie deal, that could run the offense like Trubisky as a backup. Just 2nd option. If he doesn't develop as a passer, like say Rudolph, he at least has 4.37 speed passed, make plays with his legs. A 20th pick on a rookie deal is a cheap risk for a developmental backup QB with blazing speed and a big arm. If he sucks, it cost us no more than wasting a pick, like Artie Burns, but a QB is always worth the risk of 1 pick, especially when ur roster is already filled out, and ur just drafting for depth. If Willis is there and gets picked, his speed with decent passing alone would make him dangerous, but also we could run the same offense, same plays with both, and trade Rudolph for cap space, and keep Haskins cheap for now. Haskins is worth also keeping cheap, as he could still develop with a chance. Still a big talent. If he leaves for an opportunity to play, great. We can rock with 3 QB's, and pay the entire QB position well under $20 million. With the roster Colbert is putting together with our cap space, that's a huge win. If any of the QB's develop into quality starters, that's a big win. We pay nothing to see if the do except 1 draft pick and ridiculously low salary to find out. Mitch has made a Pro Bowl with Chicago in that mess, so we can win with him. Hesa keeper for at least 2 yrs, prob more moving forward. At the least Willis can run the offense when Mitch is out, and run with blazing speed, and just try not to make big mistakes. I don't take Pickett or any immobile QB. Won't work in Pittsburgh. Like Big Ben, we need a young QB who can run the offense, make the right play, extend plays, through on the run, and run for 1st downs when plays break down.

Somehow the 49ers gave Ray-Ray like 2/$10M. We got Gunner for 2/$4.2M. Like the rest of our FA acquisitions, we are getting talent for pennies on the dollar. Goes to show how great the Steelers organization is! With Cam Hayward recruiting guys, and coaches like Tomlin and Flores, players WANT to play for this organization, and are taking LESS to come here! To see a quality starting CB like Levi Wallace leave a contender like Buffalo, to come here for $4mil/yr really opened my eyes. Then Myles Jack comes and signs on for $8M/yr is really incredible! That's how u put together a contender. Also, snagging a young, talented QB like Trubisky for a base salary of $7M and a max of $14M is a rediculous steal. Even more, he jumped at the opportunity just to play for us, and to compete to start, for a salary that say Teddy Bridgewater would scoff at. This is just huge! The Steelers are quickly setting themselves up for major long-term success. I really believe that when the draft is finished, that this roster will be a scary one that will be able to contend come playoff time. We'll see how the roster gets completed, but all signs are pointing way up. Steelers football is back, baby!!

He's a better returner than R R Mc and equally good as a receiver so he's definitely an upgrade.

I’m scared he’ll just end up like Ryan Switzer a “return man” that ends up being a waste of a receiver roster spot

i wouldnt say that an all pro returner is a wasted spot at all. im am sure we will also utilize him in the offense too

@@hunterepsi no doubt now that the entire receiving core was let go, minus Dionte. Nothing like opening massive position holes before the draft every damn year.

I think he’ll make the roster because he can play both sides of special teams and play WR. Plus, he would be replacing RayRay McCloud since he signed a 2yr deal with the 49ers.
