You know, if you want to try and mix styles a bit, you could paint a Warhammer model like a gunpla model. Take a look at some of the Eldar mechs (like the Wraithknight) or the T'au mechs (like the Stormsurge). I think those could comfortably be painted like gunpla. Especially some of their larger resin models, like Titans or the Ta'unar, but those are quite the financial investment.

You've done a great job of making a solid warhammer tutorial. I've looked at some of your gunpla videos and I'd love to see you do a version of that for a warhammer miniature.
@vicarsol99549 ай бұрын
YES! As someone who comes from the military scale modelling side initially, I think a lot more Gunpla builders should try out or at least learn the techniques from not just mini painters but the guys who do scale models and even sculptors. There are so much you can learn from those adjacent to the hobby, that I wish more people try it out and it adds a ton of flare to your typical gunpla projects. Like as you say in the video, brush techniques are so underrated in the gunpla community and how brushes are somewhat treated as just a step before you get an AB or just used to paint in small details too hassle to be masked. Which is a wrong mentality as both are different tools with different purposes. Being able to utilize the handbrushes for textured brush strokes is something people should know a lot more.

I don't think I need to say the minis are good as that's a given. However, what I was really surprised by was your sub count. The video editing, sound quality, VO, and just about everything to do with video making was really good. I thought for sure you would have a channel with at least 20k subs. Glad you're enjoying the hobby! Depending on what you enjoy about painting, you can do a ton of stuff and experiment. You've created way above "Tabletop standard". One of the things you learn though once you have painted 50+ mini's, is that certain steps don't change the outcome, and your recipe you used (which is a great idea) gets trimmer down and you get more time to do other things. You're clearly into the acrylic painting style, but experiment with slapchop and contrast paints and you get to see a different side of painting. Even Artis Opus who is an amazing dry brusher will teach you so much. Have fun!

Same journey here, starting with Necrons, coincidently. Now 3 years into the hobby and Im really enjoying it. From experience it becomes a rabbit hole to the point of neglecting gunpla for almost a year now. Im not ashamed of that as theres always going to be a backlog, deemed a pile of shame in the mini hobby haha. On the bright side it forced me to be a lot pickier with my gunpla purchases, rarely buying HG or lower grade kits anymore. I have largely stuck with RG as they've been knocking it out of the park consistently and not buying MG kits gives me far more shelf space and saves me money to put towards Warhammer. It got to the point I was selling MG kits that had RG kits, despite the earlier ones having the pre-built inner frame

@@Ball-destroyers a wash is a thin and transparent layer of paint you can paint over a piece to add a filter effect, or shading to recessed areas. They can be water and oil based and a variety of colors. When applied to panel lines or recessed areas precisely, you'll sometimes hear it called a "pin wash", "panel line wash", "recess shading", or "panel line accent". A lot of companies make them, and you can also make your own.

0:48 Honestly It's really the same as any model kit painting/kitbashing like Gunpla, TTwargames/RPGs/boargames, "Normal" models, Japanesse speial kits heck even Custom Lego.... All and I do mean all the skills carry over from one or the other they main difference is medium... Like what to kitbash Lego or some mecha? Just swap parts! While the rest are more destructive... But still when I whent from digital Photography and Pixel art to this physcal art place it the only skills that carried over were all the art skills... Like you have no idea how much I miss undo and doing everything one handed and man brushes suck... But even then I know composition, color theory and the rest which many new artests may only know from grade school... If that... So yeah the hobby of model painting is the same regardless of what kit you use.

I'm getting so tired of KZbinrs babying everyone about airbrushes. It's not cheating. It's not "non accessible," People just love to whine because they don't want to spend the money and time to actually learn the skill. Mini painters are way, way too stuck in their own ways I've seen, and they miss out on using so many hobby skills for no reason at all other than pride.
@plamomancer9 ай бұрын
If you're implying I'm babying anyone on using or not using an airbrush, that's simply a bad take. For the purpose of this video, I just wanted to employ more brush painting techniques as that's what I wanted to try on my first minis; as that's a skill I'm interested in improving. I'm actually quite familiar with using an airbrush. I never said it's "cheating" or "non accessible". While I can agree that folks can be stuck in their ways, that's their choice, and I personally don't think one method is superior than the other. I'm a firm believer that you should use whatever tools you have at your disposal. The airbrush is a tool to get to the end results just like anything else. If people don't want to use an airbrush, that's their decision; whether they see that as a loss or a gain isn't something I want to gatekeep or control; that's up to the individual spending their time and money.
