MY BAND \m/ / pnxofficial That's how Izzy Stradlin rythm guitar goes more or less in Rocket Queen. Sorry for terrible sound - it comes from little Line6 Microspider and tiny mic.

Pretty much, yeah. Songwriting-wise definitely, groove and rhythm big time. Classically cool look too. I think it’s fair to say GnR wouldn’t have happened without him. Glad as hell I got to see them with him twice. BUT: He was never the draw for the colossal crowds. That was always because of the performance-type talent and freakishness of those other guys. So there’s some bands who wouldn’t try to go on without their “heart”, I.e. Rush/Peart. But unfortunately Izzy’s the kind of “heart” who’s not necessary for big ticket sales. I’d sure pay to see him play again though.

Nah… they intentionally laid the parts where you cant always tell if its lead or rhythm youre hearing. Izzy was so good because he was as an accomplished of a lead player as he was a rhythm player. Just like Slash is perfectly capable of writing and playing rhythm. The talent in this band was immense and deep.
@rocknrollreststop71103 күн бұрын
I can barely hear this part on the radio and one day I put the AFD record on the turn table and the (right or left) speaker one went out and it was just Izzy’s part and I was completely blown away. @richardrackley243010 жыл бұрын
It's not really that... I just think his musical approach is just so good that it's more likable, and when it's merged with Slash's blues style it's musical perfection. I noticed that Izzy almost took an african american funk approach towards his rhythm playing... which is something that made GNR so much different than any other rock n' roll band. Listen to his rhythm playing and his note choices and compare it to a funk song and maybe you will see what I mean.

I counted at least 6 different riffs in that song you could make a different individual song out of. I knew there was a few based on the tempo changes and intro vs body, but kudos for revealing just how intricate this song is. I was going to say masterful as well, but everyone already knows that. Rocket Queen might be their best tune. I love Izzy, they're obviously not the same GnR without him, but by no means does that mean he's more valuable or important than Slash or Axl. Their shit is equally impressive, and while Izzy wrote the bones of a lotta songs, they're not special without Axl's lyrics and voice and Slash's leads and fills. Not to mention they wrote the bones to a lot of songs as well. I was really hoping that Izzy would join when Duff and Slash returned. I've head his reasons and issues, but still not convinced it's the entire story. Slash and Duff should have indulged him for a 5 year run. Let Izzy and Duff sing, and write an album or two of new material. The people would have consumed it. I don't think Duff and Slash believe they would have, but I'm quite certain. Probably not possible anymore without Axl getting hurt and throwing them out of current GnR.

No wonder Slash was able to shine as much as he did. Izzy plays rhythm guitar with a lead guitarists mindset combined with Duff and Steven and you have, arguably, the best rhythm ever. Slash would lay an awesome lead guitar over everything and create a hell of a rock song. I really wish this band could have stayed together. I'm grateful for the 3 studio albums they put out, but they had so much left in the tank.
