He put Gibson back on the map. They were losing popularity in the 80s as “dad guitars” until appetite for destruction. It wasn’t a real Gibson either. Now he plays them because he is paid to and gets a cut of every signature model that sells.

I played through high school and after then the kids came I hadn’t in yr then he released the anaconda burst so I thought I should play again. Have something just for me so yes ultimately it was his playing and sence of style got me going again

I don’t really know the validity of that statement but my guess is he thinks only humbuckers can sound good only on a Gibson? Which is false. You can put dual humbuckers in a telecaster and still get superior sound.
