I'm 56 now got in to me punk about 10/11 and always loved my reggae and was pleased as punch when Marley brought out punky reggae party coz things needed to explained to different community's back then concerning what side of the political/ non political? And gotta say that the very big varsity majority are anti facist And me n my mate went to the london black lives matter march to the American embassy in Londonderry other week carrying our massive Millwall Anti Fascists banner . Only thing now is that we are on the few idiots of nazis that do go to the games but they are like dinosaurs? They are getting fewer n fewer n one day not to far ? All gone lol any one love n take care from me n Deptford punx mate cheers

@@cuttyrut1611 went to Millwall with Sunderland shirt on and everything, back in about 2005. We were all, Millwall and Sunderland fans, in the station pub in London before travelling to the match, and there was no bother at all. It's all hyped up by the violent minority who are thankfully dying out. Want trouble? Go to West Ham. I went to Upton Park about the same time with a friend who was heavily pregnant. Some fat pathetic 50yr old thug came over and wanted to fight. When i refused, he spat on her coat and asked me again. Luckily his mates dragged him off before i got jail time for murder. Animals. And i have family in Plaistow and Romford, so not like we were strangers to the area. Stick with punk! I got into it about 9/10yr old too. Going into town with a safety pin through me ear. Had to take it out and re-pierce each Saturday, cos dad would have killed me if he found out! Old punks never die, they just turn 50 like me and revert to brothel creepers, black skinny jeans, Joy Division tshirts and lumberjack shirts, open, on top. True?

The Clash and Jimmy Cliff are interconnected in more ways i believe. They inspired one another mutually, The Clash covered his songs, or maybe Joe Strummer solo.

+Sheila B (Three members of) The Clash grew up in Brixton in South London, which has a sizeable West Indian population. All clash members were very familiar with the neighbourhood. The Clash recorded this song back in 1979 for their London Calling album... although the line about feeling "like Ivan... at the end of The Harder They Come" was certainly referring to Jimmy Cliff's character in the film. In this 2011 recording, Jimmy mispronounced "black mariah" as "black Maria", as people from outside London sometimes do. Jimmy's version seems (in my narrow perception) to make the ending less violent, as he says "He leaves in a black Maria" (meaning arrested), whereas the Clash says "no need for a black mariah"(meaning killed)... btw: "black mariah" is slang for a police wagon. I still love this version of the song, in any event!

It's a good arrangement, but he's voice is too feminine, and does not have the attitude the Clash have. I don't think the singer is a match for this song at all.
@PowderAkaCaseyJones6 ай бұрын
@@GJ-dj4jx Man, what an ignorant comment. The artist covering this song is who inspired the original! It even references him directly. Jimmy is a reggae legend, without whom, there may not have even been The Clash. Of course it doesn't have the same attitude, this is a man in his twilight years, whereas The Clash were riled up youths. Better a cover to be unique than 1:1.
