Tour Some of Hollywood's Most Famous Real Prop Guns

Xtreme Props and Weapons Rentals specializes in providing real guns for some of Hollywood’s biggest films.
Located in Simi Valley, just north of Los Angeles, Xtreme Props and Weapons Rentals is owned by Gary Tuers. He is a fourth generation prop master. After growing up in the business and working at a prop house for many years, Tuers launched his business in 2015. He got some jobs on some really big films. This allowed him to grow his inventory quickly. He now boasts a collection of over 15,000 fully functioning guns.
“It’s funny, in the beginning, most of the first movies I did in the first 10 years was with these 70 guns,” said Tuers as he pointed to a small section in one of his vaults containing 5000 guns. “Now, we buy 70 guns a month because no one wants to see these old guns anymore. They want to see the new trick stuff.”
Some of the trick guns in Tuer’s vaults were featured in films and tv shows such as John Wick, Narcos, Jurassic World, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Fast and Furious and many others. Tuers was kind enough to give Guns.com a tour and showed off a few highlights. His favorite gun in one of the vaults we visited was a Kimber Warrior SOC.
What makes Xtreme Props so unique is that they specialize in making guns and gunplay in films super realistic. All the guns Tuers owns are fully functioning. He modifies them to fire blanks and plugs the barrels to make them 100 percent safe. Making the guns cycle and act like real guns gives the actors a sense of realism.
Tuers increasingly works with Taran Butler of Taran Tactical Innovations. Together, they’re not only making guns more realistic, but they teach proper gun handling, reloading, and safety aspects. If you’ve seen films where gunplay is accurate and real, you likely have them to thanks. The John Wick films are an excellent example of their partnership.

That's why most people hate their jobs. Not many people in life land themselves jobs that they love. Most people accept jobs so they can have money to pay for rent and food to survive. Even if you find a job or career that you enjoy immensely, doing it daily will eventually become a grind. That's not good. The daily grind is what grinds people down into misery. This is why people working long hours for days and weeks on end get burned out, even if they love their job.

Most semi-autos need to be modded to fully cycle blanks due to the reduced powder charge. But go on and try to act smart buddy.

Its modified to cycle with less powder. They can inmost cases still fire live rounds unless their chamber is changed.

Real firearms have been used in cinema for decades, just firing blank rounds or modded for flashpaper when blanks are too risky (e.g, when two actors are too close). In other words, it's old news. They did have to be more strict on weapons after the incident in 1993 when Brandon Lee was accidentally killed.

I'm pretty much an amateur video editor and I like to film gun scenes using props, similar to what Freddie Wong of Freddiew does. my props are replica toy and cap guns painted black and recently I got some cheap airsoft ones.issues are that they dont blowback or recoil as real guns and having a prop that is real but modified to not shoot but still have the movement would be nice. I don't airsoft too much which is why I dont want to get those ones so a prop one works but hopefully these are sold, dont even care about the movie used just any gun I want to use

Regarding props on set, I've always wondered why firearms used in films are real when everything else is more or less a nonfunctional fabrication. Is it possible for the best prop makers in the industry to design and build prop firearms that look, feel, and only APPEAR to operate like actual firearms, (i.e. muzzle flash, recoil, proper weight, load/unload clips and PROP cartridges, etc.), only they fundamentally operate in such a completely different manor that projectile discharge isn't even a functional possibility, even if the props malfunction? Has this already been done for a film and I just missed it? If so, why has this new tech in prop firearm design and operation NOT become the film industry standard?

When they do the fighting scenes. Most of the time then guns/knives are fake foam guns. You don't wanna drop a four thousand+ dollar dollar pistol/rifle numerous times. While filming. As you can see. The guns were not that beat up in the video.

And jn the first death wish.( Brilliant film) Paul (Charles) had i think was a colt Police revolver. I never shot a gun in me life but revolvers are always cool and if i had to have a gun, id use a simple but effective revolver, not the 44 mag that's overwhelming. Id use a Smith and Wesson 357 revolver 3" barrel. Short guns are good.

Never checked amazon? I remember my first replica nickel plated .45 auto, I bought it with newspaper money from toys'r'us. Used a strip of caps in the magazine, discharged from the barrel. Unless you are doing a 70mm film close-up you won't notice the difference between most airsoft guns and the real deal if you obscure the barrel diameter.

I wish they would show Tybalt’s (John Leguizamo) 2 custom gold & silver plated with the color filled Virgin Mary handles 9mm 1911’s & holsters which was a custom black & gold shoulder holster & cross draw bikini holster from 1996’s “Romeo & Juliet” I was only like 5 when I first saw that movie but from then on I always wanted those guns and holsters for them. Now that i’m 30 & have my CCW permit I carry my 40 S&W XD in a custom black leather horizontal shoulder holster & my S&W 357 in a leather cross draw holster which is actually a very comfortable functional carry rig.
