A bit of advise, so others that watch this video don't repeat the same mistake. A torque wrench should never been used to loosen bolts/screws. It's a very sensitive and precise tightening tool. Doing so can damage the torque wrench and throw off its accuracy. Just my 2 cents. Other than that, great video. Very informative and helpful. Thank you!

Great video. Well paced and it explained everything really well. The first time I cleaned my 308, I had to send it back to Rugar because I broke the trigger assembly and had one hell of a time with the bolt carrier group. Your explanations were spot on. Well done and thank you.

I too had the little bolt tool come out of the bolt assembly and have the spring snap it shut. Thanks for explaining how to "fix" it and get the bolt reassembled. That was worth the price of admission :)

Helped me a lot I have a different trigger set up (custom) so I didn’t mess with it but I’ve put easily 500+ rounds through her she’s needed a deep clean and I found this to be very helpful... accidentally didn’t keep the furring pin tensioner on so had to use the vise to assist in decompressing very simple and easy rifle no need to force anything with disassembly or reassembly definitely will be watching more of your videos thanks for the help!

so i attempted to disassemble my bolt..didnt depress the spring with tool provided so I'm sure you already know what that meant...searched for a video that would help, & ended up watching yours. i don't have a bench rest vice grip to hold the firing pin assembly in place. However, i was able to grip some pliers around the shaft above of the spring. since one hand was needed too depress the spring and the other for inserting the tool, i used a shoe string to tie around the pliers in order to keep it locked tight on the shaft. additionally i layered some magazines to act as a padding between tip of the firing pin and the table. finally i pushed down on the pliers(depressing the spring) until i was able to easily insert the rugged tool provided...after that i just watched you reassemble your bolt and did exactly as you instructed. I had no problem at that point. my was was pretty unconventional, but had you not described the process of fixing the bolt AFTER IT WAS IMPROPERLY DISASSEMBLED, i would not have understood the concept of what need to take place in order to fix the problem. so in conclusion, thanks a ton, i REALLY...REALLY appreciated your video.

Good video made in layman's terms. Just picked up a Gen III in 6.5 Creedmoor. The one thing I would advise against is using a torque wrench to loosen a screw or bolt. They are engineered to tighten not loosen.

An alternative to the situation at 4:45. If the tool fly's out, you can drill a hole in a wooden object the exact size as the firing pin bolt (not the firing pin) to push downward to compress the spring once again. Re-insert the compression tool. I did the table vise idea as long as you 1) protect the finish and NOT 2) bend the firing pin are you're good.

Great video! Thanks for doing it. I followed this procedure and when I got to the point where I removed the lower receiver, my safety did not fallout as yours did. I found that Ruger now has a spring installed under the safety that keeps it from falling out on its own and deals with the looseness issue as mine is not loose in anyway when installed, or even with the lower receiver removed. My RPR is not a Gen2 either, so maybe its just something that they added later on?

With regard to the safety selector; do you think an ambidextrous safety for an AR would be compatible, and would it help with the looseness issue?
@GunsumerReports8 жыл бұрын
I believe an ambidextrous safety would work, but it will not help the looseness. There is no spring and detent pin that holds the safety in position, so you would still have the same looseness.

@bisonuberti7 жыл бұрын
GR... I'm not sure if you are aware of the new tension safety selector retention spring that is available from Ruger. The new second generation models have them. They work fantastic and there is zero wiggle in the safety lever. It also prevents the lever from just falling/dropping down from the rifle. Shoot lots and stay safe. P.S. I just found your channel, I did sub.

What bipod do you have installed on this rifle and which would you recommend?
@steveduvall59815 жыл бұрын
Mjolniir : I have the RPR 6.5 CM and I also have the same pod but I chose to go with the lightest pod on the market (I'm at work and can't remember the brand), as you may know, the RPR is heavy so light is a good option. If you have a lighter rifle/AR you can find the one in this video at Academy with long and short pod legs.

E serious question. Im getting the impression that that rpr bolt seems a bit overcomplicated than other bolts? Is there any reason for that? Thanks in advance.
@bisonuberti7 жыл бұрын
MrYrgas... Three-lug bolt with 70° throw features dual cocking cams and a smooth-running, full diameter bolt body. Bolt body is nitrided for corrosion resistance, smooth operation and durability. MrYrgas... The bolt is large and heavy-duty, thus the "Not" overly-complicated but rather over-engineered for safety and durability. This bolt is just smooth and easy to rack... and after use it just becomes that much smoother. At first it seems/looks intimidating but after you have familiarized yourself with it, it becomes second nature. Shoot lots and stay safe.

is it possible to make the trigger lighter than 2.5 lbs ?
@GunsumerReports9 жыл бұрын
+Capt Crunch the trigger on my rifle came in at 2.35 lbs. Ruger states adjustable down to 2.25 lbs. I wasn't able to get more with the normal adjustment feature. If this continues to be a popular rifle, there is a chance for an aftermarket trigger. Time will tell. You might want to discuss further reductions in trigger pull weight with your local gunsmith.
