Gunther Fleischer (*1960) ist katholischer Theologe mit dem Schwerpunkt Exegese des Alten Testaments. Nach dem Studium in Bonn und Paris sowie der Promotion leitete er bis Sommer 2023 die Erzbischöfliche Bibel- und Liturgieschule Köln und war Schriftleiter einer pastoralen Zeitschrift. Schon gegen Ende seiner Schulzeit begann er, sich autodidaktisch der Musikwissenschaft (Schwerpunkt: das spätromantische Klavierkonzert zwischen 1870 und 1930 sowie zunehmend Sinfonik und Oper) und auch dem Komponieren zu widmen. Seine Werke umfassen u. a. Kompositionen für Chor, Klavier, Orgel, verschiedene Duos und ein Streichquartett.
Das 2011 für einen befreundeten Cellisten und seine Violine spielende Schwester komponierte Duo (Uraufführung durch beide am 16.12.2012 in Köln/St. Maria in Lyskirchen) versteht sich als Gespräch. Ein erster Teil (Grave e doloroso) ist eher von Frage, Klage, Erschöpfung und vergeblichen Antwortversuchen geprägt. Ein Lento e cantabile verheißt Trost, der aber doch wieder in die Stimmung des ersten Teils zurückfällt. Ein tänzerischer Pas de deux steht für eine hoffnungsvolle Aussicht. Doch ehe sie sich erfüllen wird, bleibt noch das Tal der Fragen zu durchschreiten: Über einer gleichförmigen Pendelbewegung der Violine ruft das Cello den Anfang des Stücks in Erinnerung.
Gunther Fleischer (*1960) is catholic theologian. His focus lies in the exegesis of the Old Testament. After his studies in Bonn and Paris, accomplished by a doctorate, he was headmaster of the School for Bible and Liturgy in the archdiocese of Cologne until summer 2023 as well as editor of a monthly pastoral journal. Since the end of his school time, he is auto didactyly occupied with music science (especially the late romantic piano concerto between 1870 and 1930, accompanied by a deepened interest in symphonic and operatic literature) and composition. His list of works contains compositions for choir, piano, organ, several duos and a string quartet.
The Duo presented by Alexander Lifland and Yotam Baruch was composed in 2011 for Benedikt Lohner, a young violoncello player, and his sister (playing violin), both being friends with the composer. They presented the Duo for the first time December 16th, 2012 in the church Maria in Lyskirchen/Cologne. The Duo starts Grave e doloroso with questions, plaints, exhaustion and futile answers. It is a dialogue, that leads to a second part promising consolation (Lento e cantabile). But it falls back into the melancholy of the first part. A vivid dance, a Pas de deux for both soloists, shows a horizon of hope. But its fulfilling is preceded by wandering through a valley of questions: the violin swinging monotonously to and from, the violoncello remembers the beginning of the piece.
