I had dreadlocks in the past and i started spraying my dreads with sea salt and water everyday and soon enough they locked, the sea salt dries out the hair and makes it tangle which creates the lock

@Swirly Tunes 64 nah there was never salt stuck in my dreads because you shake up the sea salt and the water in a bottle so the sea salt just goes in the water and it looks like regualr watee

@@choppaboymon9685 Agreed. Back in MA, I was swimming in the Atlantic all the time when I first started my locks. The salt water locks you up quick and it treats any tender spots you might have on your scalp. I live in Denver now where there is no ocean and decided to lock my hair again. It's taken me 2 years for my hair to mature and break out of the awkward phase.

I just started my locking journey and last week i did the crochet method. My locs was VERY frizzy and LOTS of loose strands. I tried more crochet but wasnt good enough. So i bought a locking gel and the before and after is night and day! I used the crochet doing some touch ups as i was use thr locking gel and it worked pretty well. Now the frizz isn't 100% gone but looks alot less bummy than what it was before

I’ve heard so much differing information over the past 6 months since I’ve started my locs. Still trying to figure out what’s right although I’ve seen a lot of positives (budding, growth, etc). I live in a colder climate and feel like that affects my scalp amongst others things (diet, exercise, etc) I feel like I have to use some kind of oil especially in the winter months. Based on this video I want to try washing once a week and hopefully that will help my scalp produce some natural oil.

The first time I tried dreads was in 05, comb coil method with twist gel. FAIL! My hair unravels easily and curls right back up if I don't manipulate it. Parts of my hair doesn't even curl its just wavy and kind of straight. I gave up and went back to cornrows then eventually shaved all my hair off. 2 years later I discoverd the crochet hook method. It worked & I've had locs hella times since then. 😂 Always get bored around year 2. Currently working on a new set I think this time I'm going to stick with locs since I keep coming back to them.

It's been 10 months for me. I have super straight, thin hair. I have never used any product and since the first time I got sectioned and back combed I have washed my hair twice a week. My hair doesn't coil, so I don't want to call it locs. More like sectioned matted hair. I'm so beyond over people assuming that I don't/can't wash my hair. And also people telling me to use bees wax/ hair gel.

If the rubbing your hair when you wash is the problem then just rinse it with cold water (you should use cold water when you wash it too) because the process of hair getting wet and drying locs up hair especially with cold water sense it makes hair contact while hot water makes expand.

Gunther, can you do a video on a washing process and washing combo for locking. Our hair types are similar and I find that I wash and then condition, that makes my hair type more soft and curly preventing my locking. Thanks 👍😎

I just started semi free forming last week and its going pretty good. The top isn't forming as fast as the sides and back though. Would wearing a hat or putting my hair up help?

How do you wash your scalp? Every time I scratch my hair, and I wash once a week, I have dirt in my nails. I don’t use product in my hair. I do oil it like 3 times a week

Don't use oil. Your hair naturally produces oil. That dirt is build up

What I was told is that black peoples hair do not produce oil which is why we have to use conditioner in our hair after using shampoo. Is that true? I heard that white peoples hair produces natural oil which is why they have to wash their hair more often and they do not need to use conditioner to put oil back into their hair...

It's probably scalp buildup from the oil, stop using it as much and wash more often u should be straight

I’ll keep washing my hair once a week but I’m going to try no oil for a month and see if my scalp clears up. With my hair, I have extra dry scalp so that’s why I was adding the oils so that my hair don’t break from damage.

WAde it’s called sebum my guy, we all produce it my guy. It comes down to hair textures which is why other races wash their hair more frequently...but it comes in handy for someone wanting waves or their hair to loc. You were told to condition your hair after washing NOT because we don’t produce oils but because our hair needs it’s “naturalness” to be truly healthy...too much of anything isn’t good tho so find out what works best for YOU. Hope I could help young king. Remember with the body EVERYTHING starts internally..work from the inside out 💎
