Guppy Fry Care - how to raise healthy Guppy Fry

The Video will help with Basic Guppy Fry Care Information. The Fry in the Video are about a week old & are being raised in Nursery Tank. The information is based on what works best for me.
The Fry need more attention & Care as their immune is weak. I highly recommend raising Guppy Fry separately in a Nursery Tank.
Few points below might help set-up a Nursery Tank -
1. Tank Size - I follow 1 liter per fry rule
2. Light - Guppy fry need light 10 to 12 hours to develop their spine.
3. Filtration - Mild filtration is necessary for Guppy Fry & the tank needs to be nicely oxygenated.
4. Tank Decor - Make sure the tank has lots of Plants & rocks for the Guppy Fry to hide.
5. Temperature - The Guppy fry tank needs to have a heater & temperature should be around 72 to 79 degree F or (22.2 to 26.1 degree C). Remember temperature should never change rapidly

Hi Rachel, Sorry about the late reply; a well-fed female usually may not eat all her fry, just drop-in some cover like floating plants for fry to hide and remove the female from fry tank.

What should i do if i dont have an additional tank. Because its very expensive. I managed to save only 2(thats very few i know) fry in a large jar. Matured water & an established nursery tank with live plants would help. I follow 1 liter per fry for tank size, this increases growth rate & minimizes any loss.

The rule I follow is 1 liter per fry, in case you have 17 fries approx 20 liter tank should be good and about food, I feed everything that I feed fully grown guppies, I just crush them small enough so that it fits in their mouth. Just make sure you mix up the diet, you get micro pellets for fry, spirulina, freeze dried worms etc, crush the food nicely and feed them at least thrice a day. Hi nawuf kkk, sorry about your fry. A good diet for Guppy fry includes infusoria, baby brine shrimp, mosquito larvae, daphnia, microwoms etc. You can also feed flakes, pellets or freeze dried worms however they should be crushed small enough for the guppy fry to eat. Feed at least 3 times a day. About the sand any sand/gravel would do or you can simply keep the tank bare bottom with lots of floating plants this would make it easy to clean the tank.

Some adult guppies or other fish do not bother fry if they are well fed. Adult Guppies would only try to eat fry if the fry is small enough for them to feed. Usually in 3 weeks the fry are big enough & safe to be added along with the adults.

Hi Varun, Thank you for watching thee Video. About the Guppy fry growth, few things I can think of which might help. Firstly Diet, make sure you feed them quality food at least 3 times a day, just crush the food small enough for them to eat. Regular water change also help's in increasing the growth. Temperature plays an important role too, 78 to 80 degree is recommended for fry.

How big is the risk of inbreeding? I have a small tank and the guppy I bought was pregnant and had ten fry, which I put in an old turtle tank which is ok for their current size but definitely not big enough for twelve adult guppies and I'm afraid the situation will get worse if they end up multiplying too ayy

Hi maf, Inbred Guppies have a weak immune system, what I have noticed in inbred guppies are, size of the brood is small, number of bent spine in fry are high, survival rate of these fry to adulthood is low, usually inbred guppies wont survive their first year. Little change in water conditions effects them hugely and even common fish disease like ich kills them in just a day or 2. In your case try giving the fry to your LFS, as you will end up with more fry very soon.

Hi Sabrina, the lights should be on only for 8 hours a day, in case its a planted tank 10 to 12 hours max. About the fry, if the female guppy is giving birth for the first time the brood size may be as small as 2 or 3 fry depending on the female size & other factors. Female guppy may eat her fry if its not separated, sometimes the fry are not fully developed & won't live long.

Mine too...she doesnt eat her 10 fry... but a week later she died... why?? But all her babies survive... and i can see some of my fry are black coz my female guppy was black...my male was orange...
