Mr Yuan was demonstrating how ancient Qin players might had performed. I don't know anyone else does it. Most likely there are players who sit on the floor that we haven't met... Mr Yuan's Qin is very stable on his lap.

What is is wearing is the clothing worn by ordained Daoist priests and nuns. They are traditionally dark blue, white, or black. The top-knot is Daoist in origin as well. We sell the uniforms on our web site, but traditionally they are made by the temple tailor.

@Krummablod I will ask him next time I see him. I believe it's actually a Taoist, or similar to, a Taoist hermit's outfit. You can have them made if you can find a Taoist temple.

Opps, I deleted the first comment because the poem was not written during Song Dynasty. For some reason I thought this was another video. This melody/lyric combination was from he Ming Dynasty guqin book "Xilutang" collections [1525]. The actual melody was probably much older, because it was merely "collected," not composed, into the book in the 16th century. The lyric in the song was from yet another older source. Either way, the melody was old, but the lyric is probably older. It is uncommon to have both written at the same time and passed down together.

Are the lyrics actually part of the songs of Chu (from the warring states period) or is it a poem inspired by these poems? I recently read something about the songs of Chu and happened upon this video a few days later. So I'm just intrigued :)

I don't believe so. The lyrics sung here were lament of Xiang Yu, written by people many generations after the incident. The song, or songs, of Chu were simply a plot used by the Han side. They made their soldiers sing different traditional Chu songs, supposedly that diminished the Chu soldiers' morale [I don't buy this, but story tellers like dramatic stories]. They were probably just Chu songs from that era [200 BC], and we have no idea what they were. Xiang Yu and about 24 of his bodyguards supposedly cut down hundreds of Han soldiers before they died, I don't see their morale being diminished in anyway, hahaha.
