Directional and freeze options types are the best in this game. Directional, you aim the laser but you can't move. Freeze type lets you penetrate defenses but you have to move around and adjust or else you lose positioning of your options. I like the freeze type.

Thank you for your comment. It's a game with a lot of options, so if you want to change your mood, try using things you don't normally use and you might discover something new....

Gradius V was stunning in every aspect, sound, gfx, gameplay. Such a shame 6 got cancelled after Treasure made the best in this one, although V is lacking a Moai stage 😜.

Because 5 was so good, the hurdles for the sequel are too high and they can't make it. Maybe now they're making some really awesome Moai behind the scenes.
WTF Gradius!! This is insane! Also... is it the player that's manipulating the laser like that or is it auto aim? Great gameplay!!

@@DarkMikaruX Yeah, that's a special feature of Gradius 5's Options. Normally, all option types act the same- they follow the Vic Viper like a snake's tail, but when you hold the Option button (I think it's either R1 or R2) they do special things depending on the Option type you have selected, between Freeze, Directional, Rotating, and Spacing. Freeze locks the orientation of your Options so you can move around and keep their position; Directional, which is in this weapon set, allows you to use the control stick to change the direction they fire; Rotating and Spacing are R.Option and F.Option from Gradius 3, making the Options spin around you and fan out behind you like wings, respectively. They can lead to some really interesting ways to play depending on your loadout. Also Directional Options are hilariously broken in that they almost completely invalidate all Doubles. There's not much point in using them *just* to hit enemies you otherwise couldn't when you could just change the firing angle. Though, you *do* lose out on forward firepower as well, so that's one point in favor of using Double anyway. Tailgun can have its uses in the later stages by letting you hit both above AND below with your shots, not just missiles.
