Learning Gurbani seems to me like climbing Mount Everest but after getting more in depth with the videos it makes a lot of sense. I want to understand the Guru Granth Sahib Ji exactly how it was intended to be understood, not from a translation. This has helped me to start understanding, thank you so much.

This is the best explanation I've ever heard on how to do the retroflex letters (the middle row). On the other hand, when the lecturer later pronounces the three "t" sounds in sequence, I cannot distinguish between them... I can try to pronounce them correctly, and now I have the tools, but I may be beyond hope in the listening department. I come from Spanish, which has only one "t" and only one "d" which we pronounce in many ways without noticing the difference.

Thats the beauty of Devnagri script, developed in India more than 3000 years back in India. Once you learn one Devnagri script it opens the gateway to the other Devnagri scripts. I learnt Hindi as a kid, but later on I learned Punjabi, Bengali, and gujrati.

@@arshrajsingh1661 the Landa alphabet came directly from Kashmiri Sarada alphabet used by the Kashmiri shaivite Hindus( who worship Shiva), who used it to write Kashmiri and Sanskrit. Before that, Punjabi language was written with a version of Arabic script mostly or Devnagari by Hindu Punjabis( very limited use because Punjab was under persian rule then), but both Arabic and Devnagari script was not adapted to Punjabi language, which is a tonal language( Arabic was not that adaptable, since you can't write vowels, tones but Devnagari was somewhat better, although you still can't write tones) but Then, Guru Angad devji standardized the Gurumukhi alphabet from the Landa script in the last half of the 15th century and made it suited for a tonal Language like Punjabi and also, made it suitable for writing Sanskrit, Punjabi and also included non-sanskrit sounds like za, fa, qa etc. The Kashmiri Sarada script gave rise to Landa script which in turn gave rise to Takri script in Himachal and Dehradun, Gurumukhi script in Punjab, Khudabadi script for Sindhi. They all got resulted around the same time, just the takri some 2 centuries earlier than Gurumukhi.

I have to write the alphabet to get in my head. I speak Punjabi read-write Hindi, I sang in my Car Gurbani Kirtan I need to get back to singing. how do you memorize Shabads, the way I do it is to write the Shabads over & over & develop a technique. Seems like you are through in Punjabi. Dhan Guru Nanak, Vaaskhi di Lakh Lakh Vadhie hovai. kindly beat my Brains so that I can start learning Punjabi typing I should start Memorizing Shabads. I should learn as much as Shabads that way when at 62 I want to learn & start to read Guru Granth Sahib jee, Kindly get a stick & beat my brains about how many Alphabets did I memorize. I am very Lazy for my Guru Sahib jee, I almost sang with Harjinder Singh jee in my Car almost every day using CD tapes etc.

I think it would be a great help if you had a short vid with someone just repeating the 35 akkhar over and again to accompany this vid so that someone like me while I'm working just practice pronunciation and get use to the sounds, if you already have such a vid please direct me as I am eager to get to vid #4. Thankyou and sorry if I seem rude or anything it was not my intention... Gur Fateh!

ਟ was also pronounced as ਟਟਾ before, when it was changed to ਟੈਂਕਾ we do not know, it appears this word came much later, before it was not name of body organ, in written literature is found as pataaloo, Any way in gurbani in bani Patti it is written as ਟਟਾ ਬਿਕਟ ਘਾਟ ਘਟ ਮਾਹੀ ॥ ਖੋਲਿ ਕਪਾਟ ਮਹਲਿ ਕਿ ਨ ਜਾਹੀ ॥
