Mardayin Ceremony 2019. Copyright Numbulwar Culture & Media and Anindilyakwa Land Council 2019.
In the Gurrujurjurg (Wedgetail Eagle) part of Mardayin, the Mandhirrija skin men line up in two lines. Nunggarrgalu, Wurramarrba, Barrabarra, Ayinbala, Nunggangulgu, Mamarika and Nunggumajbar clans on the left, with nabi action (honey bee totem) and Nundhirribala, Wurramara, Thompson and Wilfred on the right with wadabirr action (goanna totem). Because this is near the end of a 3 month ceremony, the men's garjins (potential mother in laws) bring them food and drink. The jungayi (cultural bosses) for the men then take the food and drink. It's called Gurrujurjurg (wedgetail eagle) because the jungayi swoop down and take the food. Cameras by Naritjarruwa from Ayangkidarrba-langwa Media and Anthony Gray. Edited by Marrayulyuliyn Wurragwagwa, Lhargi Nundhirribala and Anthony Gray.
