He needed a proper mainspring let-down tool. You make one out of the winding key and a piece of broomstick. You also need--and there's really no substitute--a safe mainspring winder to remove, clean, and replace the mainsprings. You can make one, but it's necessary. Otherwise the water that got into those barrels during the boiling will rust the mainsprings solid. As for boiling, he'd be better off taking the parts to an auto mechanic and placing them in the parts washer. And yes: the first step in dealing with any clock or watch with a mainspring is to let that mainspring down gently and safely. And yes: there are dozens of clock repair videos accessible to this gentleman, for I assume if he wants to make them (preferably with his hands in view of the viewer next time) he can watch them as well. For further edification see the clock repair section at NAWCC.org.

Good job + depicting. Pity for lack of commentaries during actions! Some of us are watching them first in our life. Dobra robota + obrazowanie. Szkoda, że brak komentarza podczas czynności! Niektórzy z nas obserwują je pierwszy raz w życiu.

I am curious. When you assemble all of parts separation, how you remember all part put together. One mistake can be destroyed the movement.
@BoeingSkunkWorks6 жыл бұрын
That is the exact same movement I worked on yesterday replacing a clock spring and pendulum suspension spring. Any idea how old this movement is? Disassembly is the easy part, how do you remember where all of those parts go back without a photo? I would love to start working on these as a hobby, but not without exploded views or three dimensional drawings of what goes where. My father worked on clocks as a hobby while we were stationed in Germany. He bought them dirt cheap from roadside antique stands and brought them back to our quarters and cleaned and re-oiled them. He also refinished the cabinets if needed, and replaced glass.

So after I finish cleaning the parts they will magically reassemble themselves! I am working on a Becker (with weights not springs)and having a dickens of a time getting the two plates back together...hard to get all the gearworks in their respective bearings.

Very nice, thank you. Now I can attempt to clean my GB spring driven wall clock. Could you be kind to show us the cleaning, oiling and reassembly of GB regulator clock with weights. Thank you once again.

I'm with oldhippy - an amatuer like this shows the WRONG methods and could lead to someone doing more damage, especially taking the pallets out BEFORE letting down mainsprings power.

Hello Jaroslaw, Good Job. What substance do you clean the parts of the watch with?
@yhwe1009 жыл бұрын
From the casing design, this is likely after 1940s' They are more simple and straight forward. Interesting that the movement is very much the same as P24 used in early 1900s. They don't use enamel for clock face like the earlier models. Great clock.

Before opening the pallet and pendulum you must let down the main springs. You are lucky escapement wheel teeth did not get damaged

A bębny to bez czyszczenia sprężyn?
