I went to high school with Gustav. have not heard anything from him in years. Then all of a sudden this shows up in my recommendations? Crazy. I know he used to fly planes, or at least his dad did. Used to see their little runway and hangar almost every day. Can't believe his a fucking World champion. Damn dude. That's sick

When I was 14 (50 years ago, learning to fly at Harris Hill in USA) we were taught that sailplanes couldn’t do that (outside loops) because the wings wouldn’t handle the stress. Very impressive. Well done, all around!

it is because the fox is optimized purely for aerobatics. If they intended for it to also be for cross-country they would have but in aerobatics absolutely perfect aerodynamics are not the biggest concern.

You use thermals, they are rising columns of warm air, so you can get higher and fly further. If there's enough thermals, a glider could theoretically fly forever.

@TheWinnieston5 жыл бұрын
I hope you pursued this path! Its very fun. For me, the biggest hurdle wasn't learning to fly, it was getting overt the pants-sh*tting terror of "Will this flight be my last? Why do I do this?" Funnily enough, I only had those thoughts when I WASN'T flying. The way I got over that was by just going to the club once a week and flying, and then it happened. One day, when the tow plane started up its engine, my stomach didn't drop and my heart didn't leap into my throat. I was calm, and knew that yes in fact, I CAN do this. I can fly, and the glider is mine to command. Even if you're not flying, hanging around the glider club if you can is awesome. You learn so much. If you are interested, trying out a flight sim with a stick and pedals does help your "sight picture" on the off days or off season (but a flight sim is never a replacement for actual gliding). I recommend Condor 2 or XPlane 11 (on Steam). Good luck!

jacekmak87 I think that if you are smart with your priorities, and disciplined with your money, this is achievable. Multiplying your take home salary by 10 years, and you should be able to afford a used Fox, even after basic expenses. If you aren't able to find employment at a level befitting your age group, then I agree, it might be impossible. First, you must really want it. Most people prioritize having a spouse first. For me, 2 inches would have to be removed from my legs, and 2 inches removed from my spine, and that is too great a cost.

Jasper, is that a parachute you wear while in the cockpit?
@hugomanai64527 жыл бұрын
Ducati Drew Yes it is! I'm a glider pilot myself in Holland and we wear the parachute for 3 reasons: 1. Weight (because you need to weigh a certain amount or else the plane will pitch up and stall because the center of gravity would be behind the wings) 2. Comfort/safety (by landing or any turbulence your back may be smashed to the seat, this can give you backproblems, so we wear this as sort of pillow for our back and that we sit more comfortable) 3. In case of an emergency bail out (it's a parachute, what more do I need to say :) )
