The breath control of the first and second clarinet players is amazing to me. I seriously love this video. I, too, keep coming back to this one again and again. It's as amazing to view as to listen to.

Agree! The clarinet interpreters are just fantastic! Thanks for your comments! If you look at their interpretation of Mahler 8 you will see that they are used instead of their American counterparts. Ditto for some of the cellists.

Dominicana, a darnos un Taller de instrumentos de Cuerdas, a los músicos de la Sinfónica Juvenil de allá.. Although there may be other technically superior performances than this, this is by far the most soulful performance I have ever listened to of this gigantic masterpiece. It is so captivating that I cannot but be glued to every detail and listen to the end of the last movement.

Plausible! This premiered in 1953. Looks like the NY Philharmonic did a recording in 1954. Vertigo came out in 1958, and Psycho in 1960.
